New Evo ??

I mentioned this in another thread, about the possiblities and the future of the new Mitsubushi Lancer Evo IX ( which i cant wait for ). There have been rumours that Mitsu Motors plan to replace the Lancer Evo with the Colt CZ3 ( Colt Evo range ) in order for Mitsubishi RALLIART to enter a smaller, lighter car into the world rally championship because the Lancer hasnt been doing very well in the past few years. It looks a bit like the Peugeot 206 from the side, maybe they are basing their hopes on a 206 style chassis to win them the championship as the 206 was so succesful?? I hope this isnt the end of the traditional Evo range , LONG LIVE THE LANCER EVO!!

From Autocar:

blah blah... 1.5 turbocharged engine... 200-250bhp... £20k...1100kg...0-60 in 4 secs, 140mph... could enter WRC in 2006...bosses have accepted that the Evo tag is 'underexploited', and want to build on the immense brand recognition and reputation it has gained over the years with a range of new models.
Lancer Evo IX, X, and XI are already planned: IX is a modest evolution from today's Evo VIII, while the next X and XI are more radical cars that could be sold as coupes, rather than traditional saloons. 'Why not? The FTO and GTO were great cars, but it is important that the Evo spirit stays as it evolves,' said Boulay (design chief).
And as radical as it sounds an Evo version of the next generation Shogun is also under consideration, capitalising on Mitsubishi's success in the gruelling Dakar rally. The company is even talking about putting 'Evo blood' into the Grandis MPV and others.
Moves are also afoot to launch a sub-Evo Ralliart brand to plug the gap between the blistering Evo and mainstream models.

booo...I'm not thrilled. I guess if you can't beat em, join em, eh? Switching from a Sedan to a hatch isn't doing it for me. I know this years car is a disappointment (after a years hiatus, no less) but this car is set to be a big "MEH" in my book. Perhaps the performance makes up for it, but until they release it in the US for a price point that is significantly competitive, I don't care. Sorry Mitsubishi, looks like your sales will continue to dwindle in the US.

If you read the extract of the Autocar article, you will find that the Lancer saloon will continue for the Evo IX, and the X, and XI will either be saloons or coupes.
There will also be Evo versions of other Mitsubishi cars, SUV's and MPVs.

don't know why I bother...

If the Colt WRC isn't going to be racing untill 2006, I should say they will probably releasing new models over the next few years.

if mitsu does that, they shoudnt even call it an evo...obviously, its a hatch and obviously the other evo's are not. but i have to say, i do like the front of the "evo" on that car mag...just hope that they make it a 4 door like all of the past evo's

just my two cents

You know, it took me quite a long time to find the article and type it all out.

gsx4g63: As it says in the extract from Autocar
The Evo is becoming more of a brand, like AMG, or BMW's M division.
There will still be an Evo version if the Lancer (the third time I have posted that)
There will also be a Colt Evo, seen here, and a Shogun Evo, as well as other models.

Yea it looks like Mitsubishi will be making EVOLUTION versions of their cars such as the Lancer and the Colt as part of the range in the future, and another EVO that already raced and won in the Paris Dakar Rally is the Pajero Evolution. A rally concept previewed on Gran Turismo concept is the Mitsubishi Tarmac Evolution ( pics attatched ) So it looks like "Evo" wont reffer to just the Lancer Evo in the future, but the whole range.Sounds good..

maybe emissions laws and fuel quality hold the US back from getting some hot hatches, we've only just gotten the Golf R32 and we still dont get the proper Integra Type r or the Civic Type R at all.......Honda claims that we dont offer the right fuel (98 octane) but Shell, BP and Mobil all have their own blends of 98 octane on offer.........
