2010 Automobile Journalist Association of Canada Category Winners

Here's what the Canadian auto press thinks are the best vehicles in each category:

Quote:

Small car (over $21,000) — Mazda3 Sport

Family car (under $30,000) — Volkswagen Golf Wagon TDI

Family car (over $30,000) — Ford Taurus

Luxury car (over $50,000) — BMW 335d Sedan

Prestige car (over $75,000) — Porsche Panamera Turbo

Sports/performance (under $50,000) — Volkswagen GTI

Sports/performance (over $50,000) — Audi S4

Best new convertible — Audi A5 Cabriolet

Best new SUV/CUV (under $35,000) — Subaru Outback

Best new SUV/CUV ($35,000 to $60,000) — Volkswagen Touareg TDI Clean Diesel

Best new SUV/CUV (over $60,000) — Lexus RX450h
Some weird choices here and there I think, but whatever.

What do you guys think?

EDIT: Can a mod fix the typo in the title please?

Last edited by cmcpokey; 10-30-2009 at 05:26 PM.. Reason: fixed title because canadians can't spell

The Subaru Outback is an SUV?

Oh, and there are Audis in the list. And you seem to have little choice for cheap cars.

Well it says SUV/CUV so I guess you could consider it a crossover.

Cheap cars you got shit like the Accent for $10k (a few other Hyundais for real cheap) Aveo for $14k, Cobalt for $15.5k, City Golf for $16 or so, Fit for $15k, Yaris for $13.6k, Corolla for $15k, Civic for $17k... There are more but that's just a few. What cars do you have that are that cheap and the same size over there? None?

Mazda 2, Fiat 500, Fiat Panda, Fiat Punto or Toyota iQ to name just a few. and then we have many more hot/warm hatches in which to have fun. Also I don't see much the point in picking the 3, which is the old 3 just a bit uglier.

Your cheap cars are more expensive than ours however, and we'll be getting the Fiesta which is a 2. Also, for the price of those warm/hot hatches in Europe, you can by RWD sportscars here. Which would you rather?

Oh, snap!

Seriously though, there's some good choices and some that I think should get someone fired. So in general it's a normal list of "best cars."

I don't necessarily agree, I think they have more appliance-worthy cars on this list as it's mostly by newspaper writers who are more consumer and less enthusiast oriented. Contrast with I dunno Evo COTY or even C+D's 10 Best and you'll find more boring cars on the AJAC list.

For what a Twingo RS costs you barely get the V6 Mustang.

Here's where they lose credibility IMO.

The Mazda 3 has a history of quality. What's wrong with it?

The problem as I tried saying, is that they have little choice.

I think this list is potentially limited to new release cars in 2009, maybe explaining some of the odd choices.
