Creating realistic damage

I have this project for school, whats the most dangerous thing that can happen at an intersection. I'd hate to do this but I want to make two of my models look like they've been in an accident. Does anyone have any techniques or tips that I could put to use for my diorama. It would be much appreicated, thanks.

You're gonna have to be careful because below the metal of the model, there is normally plastic and other stuff which really isn't car-like. The only major tip I can give you is sledgehammer

What do you mean by "models"?

You'd probably be best off to buy two really cheap plastic kits, and ones that look like regular cars. They'd be easy to work with and you could manipulate the plastic more easily to the shape you want, leaving the necessary parts out to spread over a "road" surface, creating debris. You could also "half-make" the kits, leaving the engines etc. loose as though they're hanging out of the vehicles.

I am afraid it will not work, you better go for pictures of crash tests, or to one of those sites where they show crashed cars if you are morbid enough to do that.

1. Take hammer, hit car. Repeat 8-10 times with considerable force.
2. Heat car with powerful lighter to induce melting. About one minute of heat should suffice.
3. Present to class.

if they are plastic models, what i did in the past was melt what ever i wanted to look damaged. You could use a wood burned, which works really well, or use flame, but it will be harder to use. When finished deforming, they look really good and like they were really in an accident

I disagree! Lol, I've done similar things with old metal models before - ones that were damaged and not good enough for me to keep on display in my room. You can produce some pretty good "crash effects"

www.wreckedexotics.com shows plenty of, you guessed it, wrecked cars...try the "crash art" section, it's full of things that sound like what you're after.

Set a blazing fire under the hood, i know somebody already mentioned it but it would add to the realism. and take a bit (a lot) of fake blood and sprinkle it over the scene, where appropriate, and than take some chicken eat or something that resembles human remains, and add that inside the car and what not and out.

Post pictures of your final project.

If you want burns on the cars, put a little petrol on them and ignite.

There is now a whole class of kit builders who are doing this and the realism is awesome.
Of course, NOW, I can't find the web site ..... sorry ... try googling while I try to revive more of my grey matter out of alcoholic relaxation

Man, I hate going on wrecked exotics, it kills me to see what happens when people destroy their supercars. Thanks all, will try to post pics when completed.
