Karmann Transformer Concept

Our Concept Car Transformer, a four- passenger car, embodies a surprising new approach to the design/engineering of variable coupe/convertible concepts. The crucial point of this study is the so-called dual top system, a combination of a soft-top part, which goes over into a glass roof. Both parts of the top are electro-hydraulically lowered into the luggage compartment, leaving much more storing room than common variable folding tops.

The dual top allows for new possibilities in the shaping of the rear deck and increases the rear view. At the same time, the passengers on the rear seats have more shoulder space. Due to a vertically adjustable chassis unit, the body can be lifted up to 65 mm. Aluminium protection profiles come out of the side fillers and fenders. The Transformer was presented at the IAA 2001.
