Two days of intense action in the 2007 Rally Argentina have ended in victory for Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena who have once again succeeded in taking their C4 WRC to the top of the podium, while the second Citroën of Dani Sordo and Marc Martí completed the South American round in 6th place.

The classic stages that figured on Sunday's programme high in the sierra were no last-day stroll for competitors who faced two passes over the celebrated Giulio Césare and El Cóndor tests, a loop of almost 80 competitive kilometres without service that was always capable of springing a few surprises. These stages were followed by the Córdoba super-special which concluded the weekend to the delight of the local spectators.

Following the downpour that fell overnight on the Villa Carlos Paz region, the rain had cleared by daybreak, although there was still plenty of standing water in the service park as the two Citroën C4 WRCs set off for the final day equipped with soft compound BFGoodrich tyres. Their tread patterns had been extensively re-cut on both cars with a view to optimising traction.

WRC: Rally D'Italia Sardegna - A podium finish for Citroën and Dani Sordo - 20/5/2007

The 2007 Rally d'Italia-Sardegna ended today with the third and final leg which saw Dani Sordo, Marc Martí and their Citroën C4 WRC secure an excellent third place. Overnight leaders Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena were eliminated, however, when they hit a rock on today's opening test.

The two loops of three stages that made up the new-look final day of the Italian round included just one mid-morning regroup in Arzachena. The stages themselves were very narrow with very little grip, while hanging dust and the omnipresent boulders that lined the roads ensured that today's run was rife with potential pitfalls.

And one of the victims turned out to be Sébastien Loeb who clouted one of the aforementioned rocks on SS13. "I had difficulty finding the ideal pace from the very start," he relates. "I felt that I wasn't driving well and I had to push myself. It was starting to get a little better, but about halfway into the stage, on a fast portion which I had noted a little too optimistically, I hit the crest a little too fast and the car went light. I was no longer on the ideal line for the following right-hander and I had a wheel slightly on the verge. I tried to bring the car back in line but then I hit a big rock with my front left wheel. I tried to continue but the wheel ended up buckling underneath the car. I clearly wasn't going any further, so I parked up. Ever since the beginning of the weekend, it has been difficult to find the ideal pace for these stages. My error came at the worst possible moment because our lead over Marcus Grönholm should have enabled us to control from in front. It just goes to show that winning is never easy and that we are always very close to the limit. We still have every chance in the championship, but it won't be easy. The season reaches its halfway point after the Acropolis Rally in a fortnight's time and it will be up to us to reverse the trend."

5/31/2007 Acropolis Rally - News from Shakedown

The 2007 Acropolis Rally – Round 8 of this year's World Rally Championship – got under way this morning with the usual shakedown session which took crews over a 2.5km test situated a little more than 9km south-west of the service park in the Olympic Equestrian Centre. Sébastien Loeb/Daniel Elena and Dani Sordo/Marc Martí completed several runs of the sample stage.

"The profile and surface of the shakedown test was fairly similar to what we will find during the event," commented Sébastien Loeb. "The morning has got the weekend off to a good start and I am comfortable with the set-up of my C4. We profited from the four-hour session to work with Citroën Sport to make a few fine-tuning changes, notably to the suspension which always faces a punishing test here in Greece!" Dani Sordo was equally buoyant and pleased with his morning's work after this final chance to test before Friday's start. "The conditions and characteristics of the stage were very close to what we can expect tomorrow," said the Spaniard. "It gave us a chance to get a good feel for the C4 on this type of terrain and I have to say that it handles very well. We tried several set-ups to see how it reacted to the different changes and that could well pay off during the event."

The opening leg of the final round before the seven-week summer break officially kicks off this evening at 7pm with a 3.2km super-special round the Markopoulo hippodrome.

Leg 1 (Thursday May 31 and Friday June 1): 563.20km, including 109.42km divided into 8 stages (5 different). Thursday: rally starts in Markopoulo at 18.50. SS1 (Hippodrome Super-special 1, 3.20km). Cars enter parc ferme from 19.15. Friday: cars leave parc ferme for Service A (07.50, 10 minutes). SS2 (Schimatari 1, 11.57km), SS3 (Thiva 1, 23.76km), SS4 (Agia Sotira 1, 15.20km) and SS5 (Olympic Properties 1, 5.16km). Regroup, Markopoulo (12.54, 18 minutes). Service B (13.12, 30 minutes). SS6 (Schimatari 2), SS7 (Thiva 2) and SS8 (Agia Sotira 2). Service C (18.19, 45 minutes). Last car due into parc ferme at 00.00.

6/1/2007 Acropolis Rally - Leg 1: The two Citroën C4 WRCs lying in waiting

After yesterday evening's super-special, the first of the 2007 Acropolis Rally's three legs continued today and produced a particularly fierce fight for top spot. Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena are currently 4th overall with their Citroën C4 WRC, while the second Citroën Sport of Dani Sordo and Marc Martí follows in sixth spot.

The first leg of the season's eighth round featured eight stages, including last night's short super-special at the Olympic Equestrian Centre's hippodrome in Athens. While both 'Shimatari' (SS2/6) and 'Thiva' (ES3/7) were expected to be relatively smooth, the 15.20km Agia Sotira test (SS4/8) was always going to put crews and cars alike to a truly punishing test.

Acropolis Rally - Leg 2: Citroën and Loeb move up to 2nd place in Greece

The end of the second leg of the 2007 Acropolis Rally has seen Citroën's Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena ease into second place at the wheel of their C4 WRC. The excellent run of Dani Sordo and Marc Martí came to an untimely end however on the morning's SS12 following gearbox trouble shortly after the Spanish pair had moved up to fourth overall.

Today's leg was the longest of the weekend with a total competitive distance of 146km divided into eight stages, three of them run twice, including the daunting 48.88km Agii Theodori test. One of the day's other two stages was based near the service park and the other used the local hippodrome.

As dusk began to take some of the sting out of the sun's heat, Guy Fréquelin's furrowed brow was a sure sign that the Citroën Sport team's day had been far from easy. "It has indeed been a rather difficult day for us," he admitted. "It began well though when Sébastien and Dani profited from the potential of the Citroën C4 WRC over the day's extremely long opening stage to move up the leaderboard. The result could have been even better had Seb not been forced to lift following a puncture and if Dani hadn't been compelled to spend quite some time in the dust of Jari-Matti Latvala who re-started just ahead of him after stopping to change a wheel. That wasn't very sportsmanlike. Even so, our situation didn't look too bad at the Loutraki remote service halt: it was a little later in the morning that it started to get a little more complex…"
