What I meant was that the last line of AMG cars were only 55 or 65. Now they throw in the 63 and I'm confused.

The 63 is going to replace the 55, both in normally aspirated and supercharged forms.

I see. I thought the 55 was always supercharged.

On the the SLK-class it isn't. And before this many others had the normally aspirated 5439cc V8 in various states of tune.

Oh, that keeps it from bumping into SL class performance territory. Gotcha.

The "55" was a 5.4-litre V8, the new engine is 6.2-litres.

Why would they want to imply that a new 6.2-litre engine is an old 5.4-litre engine?

I think the main reason was that the supercharger didn't fit.

So then it should be 62 AMG instead of 63.

The 63 commemorates some race cars right?

Nah, it's not a big deal. Thanks to all of you for clearing it up.

No it commemorated the famous M100 6332cc V8 engine fitted in the 600 Grosser and the 300 SEL 6.3, the ancestor to all the super saloons that now are in the market.

Here is thread with one of the first AMGs ever made, the 300 SEL 6.8, which was based in the 300 SEL 6.3. As for the 600, Piacki has entered a pic of one for this weeks auto photography competition.
