Panhard 24 BT/CT

This is the last passenger car model produced by the world’s first maker of passenger cars. Since the demise of Panhard 24, the company continued as a maker of military vehicles, and it survives today as part of the Panhard & Auverland Corporation.

Since my knowledge of Panhard 24 is superficial to say the least and I couldn't find decent in-depth story from internet, only the very basic facts are given.

it is prime candidate for the update of the oddball corner. I have enough pics for that, even of a CT cabriolet...

AFAIK, it's the oldest french manufacturer. But not the oldest in the world.

Panhard is not the OLDEST car manufacturer of the world. But, it was the FIRST manufacturer who sold cars to the public.

Mercedes-Benz?

To be considered a car manufacturer, does it have to have an internal combustion engine?

There's probably a couple of cars that were powered on steam or electric.

Daimler-Benz wasn't created until 1926 IIRC. And the name Mercedes came from a third party. (It's way too late to research the exact facts and post them here, maybe tomorrow).

The pioneer as far as cars are concerned is Karl Benz, and Panhard bought the Benz patent. What is curious though is that at first Panhard outsold Benz.

All right then, let me explain it this way.

The first car manufacturer in the world was Panhard & Levassor, who built their first car in 1890 using a Daimler engine. By car manufacturer I mean builders of entire motor vehicles for sale and not just engine inventors who experimented with car design to test their engines - Daimler and Benz began as the latter before becoming full car manufacturers and made their early money by licensing their patents and selling their engines to car manufacturers (such as Panhard & Levassor).

Mind you, this is the French version of early automobile history, of which Germans strongly disagree.
