Latest info says 3750lbs/1700kg for the 300bhp version, and 3860lbs/1750kg for the 422:

V6: 5.67kg/bhp
SS: 4.15kg/bhp

Compare that to the Challengers and Mustangs:

SRT8: 4.42kg/bhp
R/T: 4.95kg/bhp
SE: 6.93kb/bhp.

GT500: 3.56kg/bhp
GT: 5.27kg/bhp
V6: 7.24kg/bhp

2010 GT500: 3.32kg/bhp
2010 GT: 5.15kg/bhp
2010 V6: 7.35kb/bhp

Of course, I know there are differences in drive train loss and so on but it still paints an interesting picture.

so in terms of power to weight, it's ahead of it's competitors bar the GT500?
either way, it's still pretty heavy that's really not far off what the VE weighs, and i'd thought they could lop off a lot of weight being a coupe/pony car

Yessir, and the SS is supposedly going to end up at around $31k MSRP, although I do think that's a little low. The V6 will begin at $25k MSRP. In comparison the 2010 GT500 is right at $45k MSRP.

It does look like Chevy has a strong card on its hand with the new Camaro. Heavy, but strong. Modern musclecars are more clydesdales than pony cars really.

Ahead in power per price, not power to weight. The SS and GT500 are very close in weight, with the Shelby pushing more horses (so to speak).

Spied pre-press days at SEMA.

Geez, I hope that's not the Z28. Shouldn't they be making the higher performance models MORE aerodynamic up front? Seems to me that the frontend of the V6 model is the sleekest, and best looking.

Jalopnik says it's not a Z28, but in fact a one off by Jay Leno.

Which has nothing to do with aerodynamics, right?

Being the sleekest and having the smallest front profile does....which is what I was getting at. It being better looking was just my opinion on the styling. The SS has a pointless "mail slot" and bulkier lower valance than the V6.

I'm not sure if that's going to make any sensible difference, that's my point.
the whole design doesn't look much aerodynamic, so it isn't the first thing that comes to (my) mind when I think of a better performing Camaro.
It didn't prevent people from buying the Cobra GT500, and it's problem is reportedly only the high price, no one ever considered its aerodynamics.

Remember that "aerodynamics" isn't just low drag, it's also trying to reduce lift or in some cases actually increase downforce. That bulky lower valence is trying to reduce lift which is a lot more important as you add power than trying to reduce drag.
