And since I drive one at the moment I think here is space enough to bring in the Altea XL as well?

Look in the second-last posting at the cutaway car: the roofline goes to soon to far down. You have enough head-space at the second row, but if there would be a third one, it would be to less space.
I think it is OK this way. More than enough space for luggage and enough space for long legs in row 2
