Honda Civic Type R Mugen

Following media speculation, MUGEN EURO Co., Ltd has confirmed the development of a highly-tuned Honda Civic Type R 'MUGEN' concept prototype road car, using the same powertrain as the Civic MUGEN RR saloon launched in 2007 in Japan.

The car is being developed in Japan by MUGEN EURO – the Northampton-based subsidiary of Honda’s long standing tuning partner MUGEN – and will be brought to the UK for testing later in the year. At this stage, the car is being prepared purely as a prototype model.

To enhance the performance of the already-impressive Civic Type R, MUGEN EURO will tune Honda’s 2.0-litre i-VTEC engine to produce more power and torque, as well as developing the brakes, exhaust and suspension. Externally, the Civic will take on an even more aggressive appearance, with a new aerodynamic package including a larger rear boot spoiler.

There are currently no plans for a production model.

I always wondered why they bother splitting the exhaust on single-header engined cars just for the sake of having an extra pipe poking out the back. Is it style? Because its not helping this car's appearance.

Surely not in this case.
It's like asking why single header bikes have two exhausts, one per each side, isn't it?

With the Ducati superbikes, its pretty funny looking since its only an L-twin. You'll see the "double headers" come in from opposite sides.

Then there's the 4cyl MV Agusta, on which they really went overboard with the exhaust look lol. These bikes are both far cooler than even a V12 civic would be if they built one.

You can't put DUcati and MV in the same sentence of "cool"
Remember seeing a new DUc parked up at the cafe in Douglas at the TT with the owner "showing off" and letting folks see ..... then a guy turned up in an MV across the road and you coudl see the tumbleweed collect around the Duc

The Benelli under seat is the coolest imho ( pun intended )

A guy at university used to have this, never liked the bike, and he was a complete and patented moron.

I suppose not. Unfortunately for me though, I have to be happy with the Ducatis, only because we're not even given MVs in Canada . I'm hoping they're in the process of changing that. There's no excuse for them not to be here. Maybe as far as emissions are concerned, but in that case they wouldn't be in California, because those guys have higher standards than us afaik. Crash test results are kind of out of the question too lol.

This bike is interesting, and at least available here. The Ducati dealership here used to sell Benelli, but there wasn't enough calling for them. In the words of my salesman, "they're a great conversation starter, but the bikes themselves are very finicky and love to fall apart or break. When they do, they cost an arm and a leg to fix."

The under-the-seat radiator fans are a very "cool" design indeed. The only downside to that was the fact that they had to throw the exhaust can on the side of the bike. This is very outdated and imo distasteful for the type of bike you're buying. I do love the look of the bike from the front. It always reminded me of that intimidating gladiator helmet look, with its narrow and evil air ducts.

bar the wing it's not bad looking imo (if aggressive). probably a bit too aggressive looking to be taken seriously.

The EDM Civic is too cartoony to be taken seriously, imo. It's like trying to make the Yaris sedan look aggressive; it just looks funny like a very short, very fat, and very angry little man.
