This is French design at its worst. Patrick le Quement designs are not going enywhere... See the offering from Citroen (C4 Picasso): they know how to desingn minivans... From what I know, this and the Vel Satis were huge flops...

I take a picture of a Vel Satis at each motorshow, you never know whether it is going to be its last outing....

I will agree that it's not beautiful in the classic sense of the term, but they (and the pre-facelift Multipla too) are immensely cool and definitely great classic car candidates.

Now you are over reacting, comparing this with a Multipla.
It's your call, but I can't agree with you.

I think the Multipla is a design fault, and the Avantime is made by a genius.
Only their was no market for such a car.

One other note, which I would never mention on the Volvo850forum.nl (were I am a member) I really like old Volvo's but if I could get my hands on a Avantime I would go for it.

There's some company around here, in West Sussex/Surrey that bought a whole load of identical Avantimes for it's fleet. I see them sometimes, the Avantime was an immensly pretty car and someday I WILL have one! In blue/grey or black preferably with red leather interior

EDIT: Taylor Made Computer Systems is what I was after, see here: http://www.tmcs.co.uk/index.php/mnu/56

Both are cool and let's say different looking cars. Both were flops.

So you see they are not that different...

These 2 cars, the Avantime & Multipla Mk1 were soo cool, they had so much character and soul within them, that's where Fiat went wrong with the mk2 Multipla, they've just removed everything that was good about it from it.

I wouldn't say so. Yes, they've toned down the styling, but all the cleverness is still there.

But where did the uniqueness go !? It is just an anonymous box on wheels now...

PS:
If you are looking for an Avantime, look around at dealerships and stuff in my area. In my town alone there are a dozen, no exagerating or joking !!

Anybody think that Matra/Renault shoud sort of modernise(if possible) the Avantime and try re-releasing it?

(I.e. new engines, options, wheels, newer Renault steering wheel etc.
