Kraftwerk are a legendry techno / sound fx outfit, mm from memory i know they did music for metroid games (old school ones) and goldeneye 64 as well.
radiohead arent supposed to be all about blowing your socks off. their songs are filled with atmosphere. "ok computer" didnt win best album of all time for nothing. its not just a group of songs, it brings forth a feel about the band and the songs that no other band has ever come close to. Thom Yorkes vocals are unique and are what make radiohead who they are. listen to acoustic tracks like 'true love waits' and you'll know what i mean.

When? In the 90's?

The 70's and 80's is where it's at. Even the rap is better. It wasn't about bangin' hoes unlike G-Stupid or 50 suck.

I agree with the list man. Old Rock is where the music is at.

Not at rock bands who dress in black and have the same sounding guitars.

BTW, Aerosmith concert tomorrow for me!

Although I agree, people have their opinions for a reason. If he feels those are his favorite bands, no need for criticism.

1. The Beatles

3. R.E.M.
4. Rolling Stones
5. The Kinks
6. The Who
7. Led Zepplin
8. Oasis
9. The Offspring
10. The Ramones
11. Green Day
12. Nirvana
13. Pink Floyd
14. U2
15. AC/DC
16. Sex Pistols
17. Rage Against the Machine
18. INXS
19. The Clash
20. Foo Fighters- dunno why

Favourite Vocalist: Freddie Mercury
Favourite Guitarist: Steve Vai, Tommy Emmanuel, Jimi Hendrix and the dude from Rage Against the Machine/Audioslave.
Favourite Bassist: Mike Dirnt
Favourite Drummer: Keith Moon, Tré Cool
Favourite Live Bands: Bon Jovi, Sex Pistols, Green Day.
Favourite Song: Green Day: Jesus of Suburbia- 9min+ 'rock opera'

BTW- loving the anti-rap rants. Just when I thought the world was being taken over by G-Unit. There are few things I hate more than losers who get the latest album by 'Fiddy' and play it on their iPod about 3x as loud as they need it so that everyone around them can hear how cool they are. Most rap has very little substance-you'll find that the most common line in all hiphop songs is "turn the music up a lil' bit". The only rappers I have any time for are Kanye West and Eminem, as their lyrics are actually remotely interesting.

For the record-50 Cent is the biggest f^$&#$& in the history of music, if you could call his stuff 'music'. I would really love to throw a large padlock directly at his solar plexus and watch him squirm.

If you haven't already worked out, I've been wanting to get that off my chest for a while...

That's a load of crap. And yes, I've heard it, it's sheer coincidence.

Top 20? of all time? That's incredibly hard, but most of you mentioned bands that don't deserve those honours.

Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, yes.

Linkin Park? U2? Aerosmith? Incubus? the loads of pop-punk bands mentioned? KORN????

No.

And before I forget, nevermind the tripe being played on the radio today. Forget pop music, it only barely qualifies as "music", anyway. By Pop music, I mean the soulless, generic crap made mostly by corperate execs in order to make money off of impressionable teens and the common man with low standards. This includes everything including pop rock (Nickelback, for instance. Or even "Hanson" *shiver*) "Gangsta" rap (50 Cent.), Pop Punk (Simple Plan, Green Day etc) and boy bands/pop Diva's. You know who I'm talking about.

There is no "top 20" of all time. It's impossible to think up because there are too many bands that deserve the top spot, like Iron Maiden, the Aforementioned Led Zep and Beatles. Dream Theater, Queen, Jimi Hendrix and especially Deep Purple also deserve to be up there, but then there's Slayer, Yes, Megadeth, King Crimson, Motorhead, Yngwie Malmsteen, Bob Marley Fleetwood Mac, and Iced Earth. Cryptopsy and Credence Clearwater Revival, as well.

And to those who say that no rap belongs on such a list is a narrow minded cock. A Tribe Called Quest, the Beastie Boys, the Wu Tang Clan and Cypress Hill should deserve at least honourable mentions, nevermind some of the others I'm forgetting (admittedly I'm not the hugest rap fan)

The Best (rock) Guitarist of all time is a toss up between Hendrix, Malmsteen, and John Petrucci, with Steve Vai and Joe Satriani deserving mention. Drummer? Hell, also a toss up between Mike Portnoy, Flo Mounier and John Bohnam.

So, um... I stopped writing this at like 9 PM, it's now 12-ish. You see where I'm going with this.

I agree with you overall, just some disagreements with your candidates for best musicians (Red flags went up when you recommended John Bonham as the best drummer ever without mention of a Mr. Bill Bruford, Phil Collins, or Keith Moon, but that's a completely different issue). Yes, you are correct, pop sucks and so do the tweenagers who worship Hilary Duff and the corporate whores who write her music.

For the first time ever I had to turn off the TV and blow some Frank Zappa on the stereo when the Strokes came on. Their talents as musicians were ok, better than I expected, but their lead singer absolutely sucked. he couldn't keep in key and he couldn't even stay on rhythm and every here or there he'd wail or moan to gain stage presence. Their writing wasn't any better than any pop band out there. I had expected more because some friends (who, like me, happen to be Bohemian-esque musicians) were praising their work like a psychic her star patterns. Seriously, I understand if you like a band that can belt out screams and shove raw sound down your throat, but the Strokes can't even do it in rythm.

Anyway, I'm making a revised version of my top 20:
NOTE-This is not my list for greatest bands of all time, because I will be leaving other people's tastes and preferences out. This is simply my favourite bands/artists list.

1=)Supertramp
2=)Frank Zappa/The Mothers Of Invention
3=)Genesis (with Steve Hackett)
4=)Chicago (with Terry Kath)
5=)Pink Floyd
6=)Yes (before 'Drama')
7=)The Who ('Tommy' forward)
8=)Jethro Tull
9=)Led Zeppelin
10=)The Jimi Hendrix Experience
11=)The Alan Parsons Project (before 'Ammonia Ave.')
13=)Emerson, Lake and Palmer
14=)Rush
15=)Traffic
16=)The Doobie Brothers
17=)Radiohead
18=)Steve Hillage/GonG
19=)Cream
20=)The Beatles

Best guitarists:Terry Kath, Frank Zappa, Steve Howe
Best keyboardists:Rick Davies, Rick Wakeman
Best bassists:Chris Squire, John Entwistle, Les Claypool
Best drummers:Keith Moon (by far the best), Phil Collins
