I just downloaded firefox (littleraly seconds ago) and I have to say that It does not seem any different (I'm using it to type this). Maybe it will change in the long term though. I'll just have to see.

With the exception of a couple sites that require IE, I use Firefox exclusively. I've been using it for a year or so and couldn't be happier with it.

Carlover, make sure you click on tools and then check out the extensions which are available -- that's what really makes Firefox different and better than IE. You can make it as lean or as loaded as you like. But Ad Block is a wonderful program -- takes out all the obnoxious banner ads, speeding up browsing a lot. I would also recommend Mouse Gestures.

If you get Ad Block, go to the site listed below for the very latest list of filters:

Nice one. Thanks.

These extensions I think will ultimately be FF's downfall.
FF is too open and all the source is out there so back doors can be found.
One of the crazy advantages of IE is that nobody gets to see the code

ActiveX was 'safer' before as it was one code base. The drawback with Java is that it is possible to get a trojan Java in - I've seen it down as a joke in development - that acts like java MOST of the time, but does other things
The monopoly had advantages.

There is so little between their functionality that it's irrelevant. IE is stable and ad and pop-up stopper "helpers" abound The tabbing as said is not really any different if you use TaskBar ( the tabs are now at the bottom ) but that again is minor. Switching between multiple apps and browser windows is the only consistency plus IE carries. Not major. Some of the ISPs have now responded and are offering FF in their installatino CDs, so the only way is up

The opne neat thing with FF is that because it's the techie nerds who're adopting it they are responding to site issues in interesting ways. Ther eare already extensions been written to "improve" the look of web sites. So you could have an extension which when you viewed www.ultimatecarpage.com on your computer that the POTD would ALWAYS be your car Great nerdy solutions but leads to anarchy, I just love the idea that in a few years time there will be millions of these extensions and nobody will be able to debug ANY web site problems

I downloaded Adblock and a new theme (platinum). It's telling me it will go inot affect once I "restart" FF. Does that mean close and open the window or restart my computer or what?

Already figured it out but thanks anyways. Especially for the adblocker info. That stuff helps.

I use IE. Never had any problems with it, hasn't crashed since i got my new computer, and I'm just used to it I guess.

Less than 5 times in my approx 6 months of heavy (read:VERY heavy) internet usage I have needed to switch to IE. Firefox is so bloody fantastic. I've had no incredibly annoying toolbars, my homepage has never been hi-jacked. Its fantastic
