As a lifetime PC user, I have surprised many of my friends by lately finding myself in the market for a G4 Powerbook. I'm studying graphic design and, even though I know I can get most of the software for my PC, I will most probably be using a Mac in my future job(s). So, it makes sense for me to familiarize myself with it. And I've got to say, from what I've seen at school and heard from Mac users, I'm excited about some of the features.

I don't think there is actually a definitive answer to this question. I think it's most about what you grew up around and how you want to use the computer.

G3, my G3 out performs the Dell. and the Pc is crudded with spyware and viruses, i have Norton anti-virus 2004, i have run MacAfee Internet Security, i qam also currently running SpyBot. there is one thing, some spyware app that is not letting me browse the internet, its the only thing wrong with it as of now, but thats a hell of a draw back.

We used to be mac people before PC's became the overwhelming choice for doingf almost anything. If more stuff were compatible with Macs, I'd be happy using one. Especially considering how gorgeous their designs are. Aside from that, I am not really partial to either one. Theyre both just computers, after all...

Ive studied A plus so I know a little bit bout pcs.. my experiences with Macs while studying Computer Animation have taught me how fast Macs are for rendering and design and even for music but in the end a well equiped PC can match a macs performance for much cheaper.. right now I can go out and buy 3.4ghz P4 laptops with dvd burners and awesome features for under $1000 where as the same features on a mac would cost me well over $2000. As for who ever said they prefer macs for the design.. well You cant modify mac cases like you can to a PC and you cant do Multiple monitor setups on macs as easily as you can with PCs. And another thing. Mac Accessories such as "Airports' (wireless routers) are shitty. I can tell you that bcuz I run my PC through Mac Airport and its constantly going dead ... If it were a PC brand wireless router of the same price I could get a .**G (router speed) Router as opposed to a **.b (slower router speed) that the airport is available in.

Mac are good for Graphic Design, photo editing, pagemaking, everything else a PC does better and cheaper.

im not a big gamer so games arent a problem, everything i use, or would use i can find for mac. the only real compatibility problem i have had is that SONY will not make minidisc software for a mac. i guess its cause they make the vieo(sp?~) but this has actually made me consider buying an outragously over priced iPod, maybe and iPod Shuffle

Sadly emualtors don't work for all cases and SUCK on anything IO intensive, like graphics/videa/databases

You should add a poll to this thread.
SPEND the $50 and get Norton, or McAfee, or Panda or Pc-Cillin or even the free ones ( just need to be more careful ).

There is no reason for a PC to be hit by virus anymore.
It can cost you a LOT more in pain and hassle if you dont' invest in decent protection.

PC because of modability, helps with gaming mainly. Its also FAR cheaper if you aren't gonna go Dell
For me its not that a lot of PC things are better than mac, its that all macs are good for is media editing.... thats it. Macs are also very expensive.

Too expensive, no faster, not moddable, limited peripherals. Noddy networking.
No decent games !!!
No decent driving sims !!!!!
Limited driver support for new/advanced peripherals - go try to get an HP A0 plotter working from a MAC - needs more $$$$ to be spent I plug my laptop into the network and bingo can print to the deisgn teams plotters
MAC's obession with postscript was fine 10 years ago
