This happened to me once, minus the click. Try checking all the connections

EY, RIK: connect your computer to your dads monitor; if the monitor dont work its the computer but if the monitor does then you rmonitor is screwed

This happens to my aunts computer all the time. Do you get a screen with some odd colored boxes with options in them? Its always the connections for her.

it certainly isnt the connections everything is fine, just some components gone bazirk

Times like this you need another graphics card to try in it. Or your dad screen on your pc will see if it's that. Go bit by bit and rule problems out that way.
