Video Rip/Capture help

I need some help capturing like 15-20 seconds of a video of my camera. Is there any program I could use that's easy?

i believe windows movie maker will do it, if the camera can be connected to the computer that is, if not then you may need a tv tuner or other video capture device.

I have the video saved on my computer, but I just want to cut out like 15 seconds of it and save it as a seperate file. I may sound like a noob but this whole thing is quite foreign to me.

well if the file is a wmv then yeah you can still open it with windows movie maker and split it, or do whatever ya want with it.

No, that's not the problem. I have the video on my computer, and it's already saved. I just want to take like 20 seconds of the video and save that bit as a seperate clip.

If you're on XP then it's hard to beat MovieMaker for simple stuff.
AND it writes the new better compression wmv files if you get the latest updates

Alright, I have a downloaded .avi movie in Windows Movie Maker that I need 4 minutes out of. When I opened it, WMM already cut it into like 300 clips and I can watch each clip individually just fine, but when I add the clips I NEED to the storyboard/timeline or combine the clips and add it to the storyboard/timeline, I get no video. It just plays and the screen is all black w/ no audio. Saving that video from the timeline does no help either, it just says the file is corrupt or can't be read w/ WMP, Winamp, DIVX, etc.

Guess no one can help. *Goes off to corner crying.

Edit, the video/clip I have in the storyboard/timeline DOES have audio, I thought it didn't, but still no video. (That's what I get when I hit play at the top of the timeline.)

Ok, I think I found out the problem. My video is of DivX .avi codec or something and I need to convert it to the standard .avi form or .mpg format. Can anyone help me out with doing so... I kind of google'ed the subject but it didn't lead me in the right direction.
