A disgusting bit of Bond movie news.

Quote:
Secret agent's new car is a snail compared to predecessors (ANSA) - Rome, August 2 - James Bond, the world's most famous secret agent, is to abandon the sleek, fast sports cars of the past for a plucky Fiat Panda with a top speed of just 90 mph .

The Turin automaker has confirmed the startling news that in his next film, Casino Royale, the legendary seducer and undercover agent will be driving one of its budget utility vehicles. By taking the wheel of one of Fiat's bottom-of-the-range models, the original 007 will be breaking a tradition of flashy, high-performance autos that goes back to the Aston Martin DB5 in 1964's Goldfinger .

Since then there have been Lotus Esprits, BMWs and more Aston Martins, which 007 has always driven as fast as they would go, usually with a beautiful woman in the passenger seat .

In the last Bond film, Die Another Day, Bond actor Pierce Brosnan drove an Aston Martin V12 Vanquish which could go from 0 to 60 mph in under five seconds and had a top speed of 200 mph .

The Fiat Panda to be driven by the new James Bond - the actor to replace Brosnan has not yet been named - takes 20 seconds to get from 0 to 60 mph and its top speed is not even half that of the Aston Martin .

But according to sources close to the production company, it will be a fully armed miniature fortress, as indestructable as the other Bond cars. Details of the special gadgets have not yet been decided .

Casino Royale, directed by Martin Campbell, is expected to appear on cinema screens next year. In it, 007 must thwart a dangerous Russian spy from winning a baccarat game worth millions .

It remains unclear whether the switch to a modest city car might indicate that Bond is about to become a careful, responsible motorist .

However it seems unlikely, given his past record. "Do you destroy every car you drive?" Bond was asked mockingly by his love interest in 1995's Golden Eye .

"It's routine procedure, dear," he answered .
Need I say more...

Bad news.

i seriously doubt that, he may take a trip to the town in a panda, but he will do his missile duties with a db9, no doubt about it.

If the least sexy car in the world is going to be the Bond car, then Rosanne Barr should be the Bond girl accordingly.

Remember Citroen 2CV in "For Your Eyes Only"?
Or AMC Matador in "The Man with the Golden Gun"?

Edit: AMC Hornet not Matador

That's funny! Because I have a friend in Estonia that likes Panda's too....must be a disease there, eh?

Just because they used less than desirable cars before doesn't mean they need to now.

By time 'Casino Royale' debuts the DB9 will be an old car, they'll find something more fresh probably.

isn't it the purpose of a secret agent to be non-conspicuous? As long as the Panda will have the JTD engine I am all in favour

Haha so true.

Dino, even if the DB9 is too old, it is still one hellov a sexy car, and lives up to it's name. They cannot overlook that factor. British Engineering all the way....

it's a James Bond movie.

Yeah, there is about 15 Fiat Pandas on our roads
I'm afraid Fiat can not rely on Estonian enthusiasm only in order to save themselves.

Also, I don't think its very wise to spend all GM's amends on Bond movies
