Concepts
Well, I didn't know where to exactly put this, but here is my question.
Where do all these concept cars go after the shows? Like the Charger R/T, GT90, etc. I got curious after seeing a GM commercial where it showed the Cadillac Sixteen and Cien outside the building. But surely not all Concepts return to their original manufacturer, or do they? The only time I've seen a Concept out on the street was in Monte Carlo where an Italdesign Nazca M12 was sitting on the street. I mean, after the GT90 was shown, there wasn't a single word about it, or any photos.

The Nazca is an Italdesign concept and father and son Giugiaro enjoy driving their car. Rob spotted the GT90 and many other Ford concepts at Roush who have built many of them.

But what about all these others. The money put into them only to have them disappear off the media. Are they scraped or is there some mueseum they get in?
I'm sure any Corvette concepts are in the museum, but the only Concept I know that didn't disappear was the Cala which was reportedly sold to a private owner, though I had seen one in Lamborghini's little museum. ![]()

Museums definitely get some. I saw these older concepts at the Petersen Museum.

about 5 years ago Pininfarina sold quite a few of their concepts to interested parties. The reason quoted was to clear some space..

There's been tons of interesting concepts, but what is their point exactly? I know some show off new styling cues, but some just look ridiculous. Hence, the Buick Regal Concept. It's just wierd to see 'em travel for 1 year, and never seen again, hence that GT-R Mustang race car. BTW, did Giugiaro ever drive one of their Nazcas in the Monaco Supercar GP? I heard it was entered in it or some Gumball some years ago. ![]()

There is not only one Cala Concept, so there is one at ItalDesign, one in the Lamborghini museum and a rumor of another one in private hands...
The german manufacturers show some of their concepts in their museums. So you can see concepts of Volkswagen in the Volkswagen Museum or in the AutoStadt (both located in Wolfsburg / Germany). Audi shows some in their museum in Ingolstadt / Germany and Mercedes is building a new museum in Stuttgart, which will be opened just after the Soccer World Championship next year. Also Porsche has got a museum, but their concepts (there aren't that much as you know) are hidden away in some halls... sadly. If you want to see some conceptcars visit the manufacturer museums, I think Ford, Chrysler and so on have some in US, or not? BTW: Ford sold some Concepts as well, in 2002 or 2003 IIRC

I knew they had museums, but I didn't know every company had one. Ah well, makes sense since they do make a lot of cash.

Some are junked, some go to museums, some go into storage, some are sold. I found the non-functioning Ford-Ghia concept from the early 90's at a vintage car lot in Sarasota, FL.

Honda has a museum somewhere at a Japanese racetrack but I wasn't able to go when I was in Japan.
They have some concepts there, mainly the HSC and the Dualnote and some others too. It's off topic but they also keep some old cars in working condition. |

most go back to their manufacturers. Some end up in museum's, some end in a warehouse, i imagine some would get scrapped. I saw an article on the net not that long along from a journalist who was let into Jag's special warehouse (it had some funny name) and it was full of their concepts and prototypes. There was a bout 8 different proto's for the just-replaced XK, a heap of XJS concepts, even a few undeleivered XJ-220s

There was a news story a few years back in 1986 or so about a graveyard of crashed/unused/unneeded prototypes from Lamborghini that had just been sitting in a junkyard just outside the factory, rusting away.....
