y = x * 1.05^n where y is the current value, x was the value in the past and n is the amount of years

assuming the inflation rate being constant over time..... (The Japanese economy is now coming out of a long period of defaltion)

Exactly. It's just a gross estimation. As the .05$ increase seemed to be aswell.
