Bush wants to keep tabs on Google search results.

The law was struck down because it would have restricted adults access to legal pornography. Google is promising to fight the release of this information." From the article: "The Supreme Court invited the government to either come up with a less drastic version of the law or go to trial to prove that the statute does not violate the First Amendment and is the only viable way to combat child porn. As a result, government lawyers said in court papers they are developing a defense of the 1998 law based on the argument that it is far more effective than software filters in protecting children from porn."
What happened to project Echelon?

Next you know they'll be looking for the number of times "Bush" was entered.

"Gee, how popular am I?"
"Uuumm dunno, let's go raid the Google database!"

It's a lot easier to pull Googles tracking info directly than to recreate their own by Echelon monitoring. Leaves Echelon to do even MORE intrusive investigation of 99% of the legitimate society !!

Given some of our threads, do you think Wouter will tell us when GWB approaches him for access to the UCP database ??

Depends on what car he's driving.

Wouter isn't creator of the best car site for nothing.

If Google is a private company is there any way the government can put restrictions on it?

He's probably already doing it. It was horrible when Lincoln/Mckinley/Kennedy were shot, not to mention the attempt on Reagan, but Bush... I'm pretty sure the shooter would be cheered for the streets. I bet you the NSA/NSC gave him this idea so he could see how many people actually look up "how to make a bomb","C4" or "Allah".

What's disturbing is that other search engines including MSN and Yahoo have already turned the info over to the government. First secret spying on US citizens, now they want to know what we search for....this administration is slowly turning into a police state.
