You should've seen the jokes I had to take from my gf back when I still had a single bed. It wasn't even big enough to fit me by myself. My feet would sometimes stick out the bottom depending on how I lay in it. Thats not even the worst part though. The bed frame was on wheels. Needless to say, those nights my gf came over, we'd sometimes turn on the lights to find ourselves on the other side of the bedroom .

We have two different apartments, but live together since a (long) while.
And yes, she paid 400 out of 450 € for the new bed (140 cm large, fair enough for us).
We were supposed to spend far less, and while it wasn't that I didn't have the money or didn't want to pay, she just earned some money, and wanted to contribute, heavily. Why not?!

very true. the same goes for basically all d80 components as the d90 is the same base platform with a few minor upgrades. i may consider in the future upgrading for the video feature alone. But right now even by selling my d80 i would still have to pay £300 to buy a d90 body. Which is unjustified. But the same can always be said in the DSLR industry when out-dated models lose value by almost 50% immediately.

But back on topic the grip is a big improvement on the useability of the camera. Being able to shoot from two locations on the camera + the battery life.

Now I'm saving up for a heavy-duty Manfrotto 055 tripod setup. Expensive hobby..

I've been using an 055 ProB for a couple of years. It's good, but I wish I had gone all the way and gotten a lighter carbon tripod to begin with.

I'm after the 055xprob aswel with the 804RC2 head. I do agree it is a heavy setup. Which is great for stability but not so much for carrying. We would all spend an extra £200 if we could on the carbon fibre edition but its just not realistic for me to spend that on a tripod. Even if you do only buy these things once.

The grip makes it look like it's a D3.

I'm looking for an upgrade as well- perhaps I'll wait a generation after the D90. Or maybe I should go for a lens. I dunno, I'm dirt poor, maybe I should get a job first.

The heavier the tripod though, the more stable it is. I don't really use a tripod though. I don't take photos enough to make the purchase useful.

Cool stuff. The tripod head you usually have to buy separate right?

Usually, yes. It also means you can get various kinds of heads for your tripod.

I hear ya. Coincidentally I have that head on mine as well, and I have absolutely no issues with performance with that combo. It has served me well.

It's just so bloody heavy.

]Precisely. It really sparks a creative side that many people dont think they have until they get into the swing of enthusiast-level photography. But damn its hard on the wallet. If I were you I'd set your eyes on the d90. Its basically the d80 with a couple of underlying new/upgraded functions. Which isnt surprising really since the d80 itself is an enthusiasts dream as it sits well above entry level with features that the pro level cameras share, yet its price tag isnt nearly as high. Take that camera and add 2 more megapixels and a video function along with dust-clearing amongst other features I cant imagine a better setup in its price range. Its just getting that money thats hard. As I said in the future I plan to move to the d90. But even though my camera is so similar to it, the prices drop massively once a camera is replaced so to sell my d80 i would still have to save up alot.

Yeah the Manfrotto tripods are usually around the £100 mark for the professional "amateur" models. With the heads around $50. Theres just so many different varieties that it took me a while to narrow it down to a certain combination. They are undoubtedly the best tripods though.

It seems to be the best overall setup for mid-level DSLR's. I was and still am wondering if the 190xprob is a better choice since its lighter and more compact by about a third. The price isnt that much different. But I just wonder if weight (stability) or size (weight) is more important in the long run. At the moment though I'm still favouring the 055.

I have a D40 for a year now, and I really love the camera. It's way better than any point and shoot I've owned, and I think I can live with it for another year or more if I need to. I may move to a D90 when the replacement is out, but then again I may wait a little while longer so the prices drop a bit. I'm in no rush, and the D90 is pretty new, so I don't mind waiting a while longer.

I'm thinking about more organizational gadgets for my camera- I plan to get the 35mm 1.8, so I need a bigger bag. Plus, the SB600 later on when they drop in price. If you need a new low light lens, the 35 1.8 should be a good addition- it's only $200. That's relatively cheap in camera land.

Haha, all I'm doing is waiting for price drops.
