UCP movie review: 300

i recently saw the new movie 300. if you dont know its a movie about the battle between the spartans from Greece and the persians from Persia. the whole movie is produced by CGI and voice-overs. this made the movie a little unrealistic but the makers did a fantastic job. otherwise the move was a little cheezy but made up for it in the battle scenes. Had some humour but who needs humour in a war movie? the only downside is the unnecessary nudity. i dont think having a freakin sex scene helps describe the war. the only purpose it served was to show the love between the king and queen and to excite teenagers.

so i wanna hear your comments and what you thought about it.

I am a teenager and i can say that this movies popularity was ridiculously high. So many students went on Thursday night at midnight to see it open and lots of people dressed up like spartan warriors the next day. I just don't get it. I haven't seen the movie yet and I may not for awhile but I will probably see it eventually.

I thought it was a great flick. It did a great job of portraying the way the ancient Greeks perceived Persians as being a monstrous race. Also, the fights kicked ass.

Correction, the entire movie isn't CGI. Saw it on wednesday, all I can say is that it wasnt as good as it was hyped up to be. It was quite boring through some scenes, its a good thing I had my girlfriend with me.

No it's based on a fictional book.

It's based on a graphic novel which was in turn based upon the FACTUAL Battle of Thermopylae - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Thermopylae

I saw the movie in iMAX the day it came out. It was exactly what everyone should have expected from it: all eye-candy, extremely entertaining, and very unrealistic. They took countless liberties on the historical/factual aspects, but who really cares, it was a great movie to watch with your buddies. The nudity WAS unnecessary, but I thought the humor served as a good break from the fighting etc, and it kept the movie slightly down to earth. Oh, and the backgrounds in all but three scenes was computer generated.

I think they were trying to show the equallity the spartan society had between male and female species, is what they were trying to show by some of that. But i wasn't complaining about the sex scene, which makes me quesiton why some of you are??

I haven't seen it, but our newspaper reviewer hated it. He said the eye candy was well done, but that's about all. He also said that the storyline followed Gladiator almost exactly. It also seemed interesting to have a war movie with huge hype come out at this time, maybe to excite all the younger kids about how cool fighting and war is so they'll join the US military.

Fairly loosely based...

I mean other then the general idea everything is stretched beyond belief.

I want to see it but I won't have the time to. My Latin teacher is going ga ga over it though. I'll wait until it comes out on DVD and decide for myself. Looks promising though.

If it's based on Frank Miller's comic book... than what's the problem of it being "stretched beyond belief" ? the Comic was already a fantasy, they just brought it to cinema...
