i switched to mac when i graduated high school. and ill never go back to windows. i have a blazing fast 800mhz g4 imac w/ 512mb of SDram that i bought in 2002 and it is quite a bit faster than my fiance's hp that she bought in 2004. her computer was top of the line when she bought it but its got a ton of crap and stuff on it that really slows it down.

my computer is starting to show its age a little bit but thats expected after 6 years.

also, you can load windows on mac's now so you can still play games that arent released for macs. my old roomate has windows on his computer that he only uses to play command and conquer and he uses osx the rest of the time.

i definately reccommend a mac.

I have a desktop computer with Windows Vista (which runs very fine with SP1) and I want to order a Macbook Pro eventually, you know, just to enjoy the best of both worlds.

Dammit!

I'm going to have to think long and hard on this one. It's either spend $3,000 on a MacBook Pro or spend $3,000 on a gaming PC...

My gaming needs can be pretty much fulfilled on consoles now, and I plan on getting a PS3, but I don't know...

Get a Mac Pro with a monitor that you have/like. And get your RAM upgrades from Crucial, newegg or OWC. Do NOT waste your money on the RAM sold by Apple.

I've been a Mac user all of my life and I wouldn't ever consider windows. Windows is just plain obnoxious.

Yeah, I'm thinking if I got a desktop, it'd be a Mac Pro.
And, I already know not to waste my money on RAM upgrades from Apple, since Apple charges ridiculous prices for them

Yeah it's ridiculous, you have to pay $500 to add 2GB of RAM! I can do it for $35? Also, I would subtract $500 from the price and get one Quad-Core Xeon, not two, 8 processing cores is overkill, especially considering games don't make use of multiple cores too well. In fact, there's little to no advantages in a ton of games.

if the point is just gaming...buy a console, perhaps not the PS3.
with 3000$ you can buy the Wii for a total entertainment with your friens and an Xbox360 for a "simulative" experience. then you could buy a standard pc/mac for about 1000$ just for checking your emails and post some of your ideas on UCP
