My power bill was about $800 last year. You're saying that my DVD player was responsible for 1/8th of my power consumption?

It might go on, but it will be fundamentally different. As the climate changes, it becomes harder to grow crops or raise livestock. Species that can no longer survive in their habitat die out, which effects whole ecosystems. Water supplies will be harder maintain. And people will have to move more than just a few metres up the beach. Go stand on a flat beach at the edge of the water at high tide and look inland and find where 20m elevation is. It'll be quite a fair bit further back than you think. 20m would flood or isolate pretty much the whole Sydney CBD.

have you ever heard of the mini or little ice age? i saw an interesting history channel show about it. but it was an ice age that happened relatively recently (i think it ended in the 1800's) but apparantly the little ice age ended relatively abruptly (just like it started abruptly).

You people don't KNOW anything. All guesses from your human brains. You have NO IDEA if this has happened before or if it hasn't....NONE.

And like I said, there is no way to measure a GLOBAL TEMPERTURE accurately and it is UNSCIENTIFIC to attempt to do so.

just wondering what qualifications do you have to say what makes something scientific or not?

And your first sentence does look like your forced absence hasn't taught you anything.

Brain-fart by Matt I guess, it's about that per year for ALL your domestic aplpiances standby modes. ( £40 in the UK )

Re sea rise, the aspect often missed by may is that the sea is salinated ... so if it starts to leach into farming land then there is a loss of sustainable food production. Not a major issue for the US with so much inland, but UK Norfolk woudl suffer

hmmm, so average height, weight of a population, average fuel consumption, in fact the WHOLE arena of statistics is cast aside by your infinite "knowledge"

Thats cool Captain and the ice may be thicker in parts but did you recognise the crucial point within my quote which is that Antarctica is losing its ice mass, in net terms, and at an increasing rate

As for beachfront property not being swamped, would you be game to purchase a house & land package in Tuvalu? If so then lets talk...

ps: do you prefer the houses that have already gone under water on the island or the ones that are soon to submerge?

While you and i seem to be on the same side of the issue of global warming i have to disagree with you here.

i think the system they have of measuring temperatures from various places (locations, elevations, ect...) at the same time and several times daily is more than adequate. yes i suppose that cant measure the exact temperature of the entire world but they have a decent system in place.

Someone tell me how we could accurately measure the Earth's "avg" temperture. Please, I want to know how you'd do it.

I think you already know how "we" do it, because you classified it as being unscientific. And to make that judgement, you need to know what method is being used.
