Interior Doors

Me and one of my roommates got back from spring break today to find that his bedroom door was in pieces.. kicked in. We drove to Home Depot and Lowes today to find a replacement but the size of the door is an awkward 29.5'' by 80'' in height. We asked if they could cut down an interior door slab from 30 to 29.5 but they said they couldn't.

I checked online just earlier but to no avail.. can anyone help?

Kind of hard to do at school. We don't have tools in the house.

Find someone that could do it then. Or buy curtains.

It's gotta be a standard interior door. We leased the house for a year so the landlord may not be very happy.

A basic plane shouldn't cost more than $10, and will have the door fitting in a few minutes. So much better than the run around...

Cutting's not an option because the width is too narrow? That would leave the whole for the hardware in the wrong location. You could probably cut the hinge side, or order a door to fit.

On top of that, I don't think you could cut the doors they have there because they're hollow core, leaving the cut side retarded since the edges are veneered over, I think.

Whatever, it's my roommates problem. He'll have to take care of it somehow.

Most doors are made with trimming in mind, so there should be about an inch of solid on each end for trimming down. The main thing is to get the hardware in the right place though, if you get one and fluke the latch and hinges in the right place in relation to each other and to the door frame, well done.. given it's not a standard size, good luck with that. Hanging a door is easy when you know how... but it's still a pain in the arse.
