Unless you do a comparative study of annual trends then snapshots are pointless.

IF that's the driving force, then the forum is in worse danger as not only is it an open-loop system trying to tightly controlled, the control parameters used are irrelevant and out of date potentially.

Rocke, reading your tearful woe-is-me post I do remind back to what has been constructively proposed before. ie allow freedom for discussions to "wander" and apply corrective action only to those who habitually over step the mark and focus that action on the issue and not try to take in "wider" solutions applied in blanket manners. If it ain't broke don't' fix it ,,, and sorry Pieter/Wouter if you're using the numbers to justify "brokenness", then one number is far to simplistic

Rocke, dont let this get you down. By creating the thread "Galah Sessions" i believe its served its purpose of attracting most of the off topic discussion in the Australian forums but of course theres always one or two things that sneak through that someone might want more attention given to. I created that thread though because the members that frequent the Aussie forums the most dont tend to use the miscellaneous section as intended.

I dont think the same couldve been achieved by picking all the off topic discussions out of existing threads, collecting them together and hoping the previous threads would get back on topic and the off topic discussions could continue.

I dont know if the idea for an off topic thread targeted at the forum at large, where the idea is to create discussions rather than transfer them, would really work when the majority of forum users start off topic discussions in the miscellaneous section anyway.

In the past, simply splitting each thread when a secondary discussion has developed that is unrelated to the first is usually what has been done.

Well, I'm not necessarily down but a bit dissapointed that this was blown out of proportion. I apologize for this idea coming off so strong, maybe I worded or presented it incorrectly.

The main idea for this was NOT to take all/most off-topic discussion out and move it to here. It was just for extreme examples of randomness that destroyed the original intentions of the thread. It may seem like massive pruning was going on once the 'football' thread posts were put in here, but Wouter asked me to move them in here. He may have been joking a bit because his father was involved, but I did it anyway. Besides, no one's going to miss that.

Who are we kidding anyway... it's impossible to keep a forum thread on topic as it grows. One post leads to another, leads to another, and boom.. you're talking about Hitler in a thread related to rainbows, but that's how it goes. You guys know me well enough that I'm not the most serious person here, and I'm guilty of taking stuff way off to left field. I only wanted to fix those threads worthy of discussion that had failed due to well, randomness.

I'll re-close this thread for the 194th time. I think all that has to be said has been said. I'm not really looking to debate this because a lot of you disagree, but the idea is still here in the future if needed.
