Only when dealing with the MacBook Pro I think. I figure if I'm spending $1-2000 on a laptop + accessories, I go Windows. $2000+ for me would be Apple. The way I see it is I get more bang for the buck that way.

The facts they look great, work great, are light and just generally epic that do it for me. A desktop PC doesn't have to look good. IMO a laptop has to.

That $400 dark grey Acer ≠ baller status.

I don't touch laptops under a $1000 or so. HP EliteBook Series or 16XT series with at least 4 gb ram, 64 bit dual-core (2.0ghz) minimum, and top-end internals would do me just fine. That'll run at $1500 max if I shop it right. For that money I barely get a MacBook with 2 gb of ram.

Yeah.

I have to say though I have kind of a biased view, my PC is über leet, I don't need a powerful laptop with Windows. A powerful laptop with OS X would be cool though.

EDIT: Dell XPS are great too.

werd. I love discussing on UCP while talking on MSN. It's so superfluous.

We're not discussing the same subject on MSN though.

We're so 21st century. You know.

that's because OS X doesn't need 4 gb of ram (it works greatly with just 1), while Vista does. extremely.

I'm running on 3gb just fine, thankyou very much.

I agree completely with Rockefella's sentiment. If you're going to invest heavily in a laptop computer a Macbook (particularly a Pro) is a great choice.

but if you're looking at something within budget & still reasonably well specced, search elsewhere.

I personally use a Dell XPS M1530 with 2.4ghz, 3gb RAM & a 256mb Dedicated Graphics cards, with a 15.4 inch 1680X1050 res screen, which I bought for $1800 au.

For a similar specced Macbook pro, I was looking at $2,700. These days, I'd be looking at $3,100 for the new style Pro's.

I couldn't justify the expense.

Both OS's are recommended with at least 1Gb of ram, but you are correct in saying Vista only functions to the best of it's ability with a higher amount.
