Pricing Confirmed for New Golf GTI

Pricing Confirmed for New Golf GTI as Orders Mount Up

Volkswagen has confirmed prices for the new Golf GTI, which made its world debut recently at the Paris Motor Show. Starting from £19,995 RRP on the road for the three-door model, the latest generation of the original hot hatchback will offer an outstanding blend of pace, quality and overall value for money when it goes on sale in the UK in January.

Standard equipment will be comprehensive, with key items including 2Zone electronic climate control; ten-speaker CD player; multifunction computer; ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme); driver, front passenger, front seat side and curtain airbag systems; and automatic driving lights. Striking 17” alloy wheels are fitted as standard, with optional 18” versions expected to be a popular choice at £445 RRP.

The new Golf GTI is a true performance hatchback, offered with just one powerful engine, a 200 PS 2.0-litre turbocharged FSI. Featuring homogenous direct-injection, this four-cylinder powerplant produces an exceptionally flat torque curve, with maximum pulling power of 207 lbs ft available all the way from 1,800 to 5,100 rpm. Combined with either a six-speed manual transmission or Volkswagen’s revolutionary DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox), the new GTI promises strong, accessible performance in all driving situations.

For years the Golf GTI has appealed to a wide range of buyers by offering three and five doors, and this new generation is no exception. However, the visual appeal of both versions has been enhanced, with more individual styling compared with other Golf models in the range. This raft of GTI signifiers includes a plunging black honeycomb grille with red frame, lowered sports suspension; double stainless steel exhaust pipes; new front and rear spoilers; and red brake callipers. At the rear, only the ‘VW’ roundel and the evocative three letters ‘GTI’ are displayed, with the ‘Golf’ badge absent from this special model. Inside, chequered upholstery harks back to the Mk I GTI, while aluminium trim adds a smart contemporary ambience.

Prospective buyers of the new Golf GTI have been able to pre-order their own vehicle since the dedicated webiste www.newgolfgti.co.uk was launched in August. The site has been a great success, attracting large numbers of visitors and a growing number of orders. It enables customers to specify their GTI through a simple step-by-step configurator, choosing, for example, colours, options and upholstery; a unique reference number (URN) is then issued, which the customer takes to their local retailer to complete the order.
