Chaparral 2A

This weeks update shows the Chaparral 2A, and if you look at the sponsorlogos there is the distinctive COX sign. For those who don't remember, Cox used to be one of the famous slot car manufacturers and they produced a nice model of the 2A. I had the model (for static display only, like many Monogram kits of the period) back in 1965. The model has long disappeared but miraculously the box survived for 40 years and is still in use (now for photographs ).

Here it is,

Monogram has issued a very basic scale model kit for Chaparral 2D to 1/24th scale some time ago, even if there was not anything in common with slot racing. It was re-issued this year, I think. At least I have seen pristine one in one of local hobby shops.

I never bought that kit, but I got the Japanese Modelers kit of the 2D and a1/28 scale Otaki of the 2J. IMC/Union did the 2E in 1/25, which needs a lot of work (There is a T70 spyder and the Ford MkIV in the same series). There are resin kits of the 2F as well, but these are more than 200$.

I have always prefered 1/24th - 1/25th scale kits and I have completed a lot of them. Some of them are still left intact, the rest have suffered from a care of my children a lot. Many are still left sleeping in their boxes awaiting me to go on with my activities. I have completed some of Tamiya 1/20th scale F1 cars kits. That Monogram Chaparral is a very basic one, indeed. I have bought it in order the subject fits to my favourite era and there was not any other offering.

Henk- imagine how much that chaparral would sell for if the kit was there and the box was a little better condition

here is the IMC/Union Chaparral 2E. All the movable body parts result is a lousy fit.

Welcome to UCP
good question, not me personally but I am sure there must be people around. When you look at all the models that are available now there must a group of enthusiast followers.
Perhaps if there is enough interest we could open a dedicated forum section.
