Meh, I'd still take the GTO on sound/looks alone. The STI is just too boy racer.

Well... Anyone who chooses the GTO over the STI has to be focusing on sound and looks... Because other than that there's nothing special about it, a car with a 2.5L I4 300HP can hand it to him.

Personally I prefer the STI over the GTO, the STI isnt that bad to live with each day as a friend of mine has one and he thinks its better than his E39 M3.

The GTO is so American but made in OZ?? whats he on
It's about as American as john howard is a nice guy

Whats funny is the STI is a hot version of the WRX.
A real battle for the STI would have been the HSV GTO which is the hot version of the Monaro(GTO). It has better brakes steering suspension setup.
Plus it's RWD not AWD and much heavier.
The Coupe4 would have gave it a scare but not a standard GTO.

Yeah, I think its a bit odd for a comparison, nobody expects the GTO to handle like and STi, or to be revvy like one

id take godzila.

I'm against all that rebadging madness currently going on. especially since this car was not even deloped by pontiac, its not even american and they still call it a GTO. its ridiculous. even more ridiculous are the people who buy it and believe all that nonsense.

this is a stupid comparison, the two dont have the same market. they said it them selves...

That's GTO if you're under 30. That's Subaru Technica International if you're over 40.

Hmmm, I do agree that these two cars are for two different market nitches, so comparing them is kinda useless. Personaly, both are among my favorite cars, so I'd get them both

I got to tag along for the photoshoot for this comparison test! It was pretty interesting to see how things work. I even got to drive both cars. I was actually surprised at the photos they posted. I thought there were many others that were better.

what would be your choice?
edit: both reviewers said they'd prefer to live with the GTO. hmm..

Well Pontiac literally have the drivetrain from the HSV GTO and stuck it in the Monaro without really upgrading much else, so somethings out of balance there definately.

Definitely the GTO. It has an amazing interior, and although it has a very subtle design, I think I would prefer that over the boy-racer STi.
