i was thinking some of our good photographers could just post tips and suggestions etc here along with examples of what they mean

things like framing certain shots etc

tell me how many would be interested

Photography tip #1
The Rule of Thirds

the center of a picture is usually not a confortable restingplace for the eye. view your picture with an imaginary grid layed out and try to place the subject near one of the intersecting lines. this will lead the viewer's wye through the image, creating a more powerful picture.

Zooming During long exposure

Photos of certain lighted objects can be pleasant to look at, however, these photos can be made more interesting by adjusting the zoom during periods of long exposure.

Did you do that with the A40? I was not aware one could zoom during an exposure.

I really can't give many tips on photography, as it's really just tweaking around, but I can give you this much. Try not to put the horizon line through the middle of the photograph-it looks amateur and not well thought out. Concentrate on the ground or sky, not typically both. (There are exceptions, of course.)

1=Meh
2=Good
3=Also Good

(As an added bonus with using this type of framing, you can get objects near the edge of the photo to lean out-a charecteristic which can often be found in professional shots, but not 'tourist' shots.)
