British Hillclimb vids

Couple of great in-car ones.

First is the new record at Shelsley Walsh
Note how NARROW the track is and some will start to understand why I like cars that handle the best

Also, look at the acceleration and the SPEED this guy gets to on that undulating narrow track !!!

http://videos.streetfire.net/player....8-CED551A51858

Then' we've got different guy at one of the North England tracks Gurston Down.
http://videos.streetfire.net/player....3-B54A6FC7570C

What I "like" is that neither of these tracks have the usual northern Scottish stone walls to destroy your car on if you get it wrong - those who've seen the others I've posted that I've taken will know what I mean I think I want to go south for more safety

Liek the new record at Doune in Scotland ....

It still needs some development work, he was 1/2 second off the pace - which is an eternity if the plan is to oust the Pilbeams !!!
The club time sheets are up at http://www.dounehillclimb.com/downloads.htm if you wanted to see times and splits.

I object

Well , yes, THESE guys are running the hills and sprint tracks MUCH faster than the modofied saloons and positively warp factor compared to the classics

well my point was that in relation to the speed they are going they dont have any regard for their lives coupes, saloons etc have some bodywork to mingle first.. though i guess the safety shells would protect these guys more then a rollcage.

These are as strong as an F1 car. I've seen them roll down hills and the driver walk away. Worst I've seen was when a suspension arm managed to punch through and smashed an ankle - a good few years back

Apart from some tracks with trees - DOUNE - then the safety barriers provide some protection. Hers' one report of an incident in '03...
"Adam Fleetwood in the 3.3 litre Gould-XB single seater race ......speared straight into the barriers at Willow, putting his car out of action with front end damage. Track staff and observers described his approach and entry speed into Willow bend as awesome, and estimated his actual barrier impact speed at 60-70 mph. After medical checks we can happily report both driver and Safeguard barriers uninjured"

The stone wall dykes at Forrestburn and Knockhill ( my locals ) can do LOTS of damage but usually it's tearign wheels off and not frontal

He's not related to Mick, though the idea of doing a hillclimb to "dont stop" has an appeal

my thoughts went elsewhere when I saw the name Doing a hillclimb in a 9-seater might be appealing to some....

Matra, you should get you self down to Prescott - that's a great hill. It's one of those climbs that you never feel as though you've got your line as good as it could have been - it's a very addictive course. The Esses are great fun.

Me at Prescott:

Mnay MANY years ago spannered at Prescott.
It's another typical soft-weeny-southerner ( a term used by a lake district competitor ) track with lots of space to get it wrong and sideways in.

But, lets get it all in perspective. There is no such thign as a "bad" hillclimb track in the UK and not ONE that I would call open with sweeping bends wehre a Limo could go as fast as all the other cars

Do you do any of the northern championship ?
