roBc: please help me out....

i am hoping to become a car designer and obviously need practice straight away. I have been drawing for years but now i need the assistance of computers. I want to recreate existing cars from scratch (NOT alter cars or modify them). The examples i have seen have been well over £2k for the package, but i want a very cheap one to start. (preferably one available in UK).

follow this for one of the pricey ones:

www.supercars.net - Art work- sketches.... - about page 13 it is called koenigsegg CCR Project.

please suggest to me some reasonably priced software!

THANKS VERY MUCH

I don't understand what exactly you are looking for. You'll be taught everything you need in university anyway. But if its a CAD package you're looking for, Ive heard good things about AutoSketch R9 http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...958024-9752708
This is more of an area of expertise for Coventry tho.

You could try Blender, thats free It is a 3D modeler not a CAD package however, depends really what you're looking to do.

A decent 3D CAD package is going to be pricey. If you're off to university they may offer a student version of whatever CAD package they use at a reduced price. One package I was looking into for personal use was VariCad, roughly $499 but has a free download so you can try before you buy.

Other packages off the top of my head are sketchup, but Im not sure it would be suited to car design. Again that has a trial version and the full one isnt that expensive. Its more for sketching out ideas quickly rather than final designs.

Also, try a search for Caligari Truespace. Older version have been released into the public domain, not sure if its any good as they are a few years out of date

Hope that helps.

I would suggest a mix of AutoCAD and 3dsMAX 8, both from Autodesk. Dont know the price of ACAD, but 3ds is the best part of £3500, so it night be slightly out of the price range. Better stat saving up the pennies!
