At the end of the clip they say it has a 993 Turbo engine with a 996 GT3 drivetrain and independent suspension all round.

is the link between porsche and VW such that engine swaps are this easy? I remember lesser Porsches used to have VW engines and the original Porsche was called a glorified beetle by some. I find it hard to understand how a modern Porsche engine would go straight in without much modification. Obviously he has done a lot if it has new suspenion and all. But why are porsche engines the favoured choice?

Well IIRC the engine is in the back and the rear wheels are driven just like in a porsche. I guess that's why it's soo easy and rather common.
