I have around 16.000 songs, at about 60 megs.
The sad part is that I never listen to most of them cause I have them in an external hard drive. On my laptop ATM I have 1096 songs which is around 9 gig and that is what I really listen to, on my I pod I had about the same (it's a 8 gig gnano) but I lost it  So my conclusion is you don't really need them but you can brag about them!

Just to Clarify... My current collection has been compiled from my collection and 4 other friends - so I can't take credit for buying/downloading/ripping them all - just making the compilation. I have them on a RAID 1 Western Digital My Book and then I am running a server - so I can have the music on any computer in the world that has an internet connection...

i have 16,000 over 65 gigs on my HD and my ipod has 5,200 on a 60 gig and that takes up like 25 gigs. i have A LOT of movies downloaded though like 200 so
