Spyker burns

The final session at Paul Ricard started at 14:00 on Monday, shortly after the teams had enjoyed their lunch. Shortly after the session had started it was the Van Merksteijn Motorsport Porsche RS Spyder that improved its lap time, bringing it to 1:43.820.

Just before half past three the session was red flagged though as the Speedy Spyker C8 Spyder GT2R caught fire in the last corner. Due to the strong wind the car was quickly completely engulfed in flames and completely destroyed. Andrea Chiesa managed to get out just before the cockpit was destroyed by the fire and returned to the pitlane shocked, with a black face.

After the track was cleared and the wreck was taken away the session was restarted at exactly three o’clock…

EDIT: reminds me of a joke we used to tell as kids, about who's father was the fastest in his profession..
The first boy said:My dad is the fastest, cause he is a race car driver..
Then the next boy said: No no.. My dads a pilot, so he is much faster!
The last boy laughed and said: My dad is much faster! He works for the state and his workday ends at 3.00

i like spykers as road cars and not so much as race cars, but since they are always in trouble with money i guess a car totally destroyed isn't a good news...

its a sad sight, ive always been a huge fan of spyker. and with the company being a smaller one, i feel like many of the owners would be tight with each other in a spyker brotherhood that just makes owning the car twice the fun

they were testing last year's car, the new one is now on show in Geneva. This was actually supposed to be the last outing of the car in the traditional orange/silver livery. It will be replaced by a totally new blue/yellow scheme.
That the livery went out with a bang was not scheduled though....

the new one will be shaken down in 14 days time. Spyker will not be going to Sebring.

And owner wasn't it ? I dont know the background of Snoras but they are owned by a Lithuanian bank now..

I found the silver and orange better as well - what was the inspiration for this design? Was the orange for The Netherlands?

I also thought the silver and orange a bit tacky. Orange and blue may have be nice and been a bit of ah homage to The Netherlands (old) flag if that's what they were going for.
