Braking is a bad idea anyway. The weight shifting will offset the car further. In a RWD car the best idea is to let go of the throttle softly, not abrubtly, I think. In a FWD car best is to steer correctly and put the pedal to the metal. It saved me more than one time, whilst playing with the Alto on muddy area's nearby. AWD I wouldnt know to be honest..

My Biggest concern with the video?

The fact he switches lanes right before the accident, without indication, and with no real reason other than to cut the corner. and out himself in danger.

It's a good correction where most drivers, I assume, would have locked their arms and held on for dear life. But one gets the feeling it could have been avoided.

95 mph is speeding in any European country anyway...(except small parts of Germany.)

A perfect example of a tipical portuguese driver, owner of the road, no speed limits and absolutly "do not touch thoose indicators"! they have to look new when you sell the car! Oh yes... don't forget - looking at rear view mirrors may blind you!

Cheer luck, the spin started 2 seconds before he noticed it, he could have reacted much sooner but i guess worrying about your tragectory on the highway takes a lot of your concentration.

He tried in the Fiat 850 to, but failed due to lack of.... eh.. everything....

And yet it's not strange to see people driving at that sort of speeds.

Nope. Mostly FWD. Did drive a RWD-rear engined prototype car for a customer on track a few months ago(Lelystad). I learned a lot about vehicle control and was luckily also able to provide some good data to analise. It's besides driving a BMW normally my only RWD experience.

It's pretty much what happened to my Mum & Dad in the old A6 on the M25 in Kent, but that was due to a lorry pulling out and hitting the nearside 3/4s and they span 3 times until my dad regained control saving them from hitting the central reservation.

Not a correct judgement in my opinion...

In the first I will not comment, because you are really a "typical portuguese commentor"... (If something is portuguese it sucks no matter what... )

In the second I just want to ask how can you react instantly to a tail-slide when you are not counting it can happen in the middle of the highway at that type of speed and conditions...

If he wasn´t so concentrated,we would have crash...

Stop looking at me! Look at me! Stop looking at me!
My first thought was he may be a skillful driver, but its not very skillful to be driving like a maniac on the highway... If there had been any car next to him, there's a good chance of an accident, and at the speed he was going, he'd be taking it in the rear.

It was well caught, I didn't notice any trace of lift-off so I suppose there wasn't much else he could do except going slower...

IB4R your being a fair nanny. Im sure youve driven in the same manner at some stage yet you sound so condescending. If thats classified as driving like a maniac we are all guilty. So many people get on their high horse when something like this pops up on the net, give the guy some credit. yeah he probably was exceeding the limit, and lane changed without indication but even if he had of been doing say 80mph, the exact same thing would of happened. im not condoning his speed or his lack of indication skills but he did preety well

Put the drivers skill aside for a moment.
The oil patch didn't just arrive magically in front of him, so therefore reasonable to assume other cars had driven through it and we don't see the road littered with crashed cars driven by grannies. So the exact same thing didn't happen

So reasonable to conclude the following
1. The higher speed was a major factor
2. the limited time availabel to respond to it was a major factor
3. if driving to the conditions ie visibility of the road surface and other vehicles then it was avoidable

Almost every miraculous "save" on the roads can be attributed to failure to recognise conditions and drive to them. Hence "avoidable"
