I'm changing the name of my car.

It used to be: Nissan Pathfinder. Now it's: Roy's Crashfinder.

F*cking ridiculous. Two blocks from my house, on my way home from work. I stop for a lady walking her dog (she was in a cross-walk) and the guy behind me, apparently wasn't paying attention. He swerved at the last second to avoid, but it was too late. The corner of my Crashfinder took on the corner of his 2002 Z71 extended cab Chevy truck. Then he bounced over the curb in to the park. Luckily, he didn't hit anything, or anyone, else.

Anyway, pics of the damage - gonna be expensive... the damage extends up above the belt-line crease of the vehicle, so I'd guess that the rear 1/4 panel will have to be cut out up to the roof...

Insurances aren't covering?

Anyway, bad news. Those situations suck so much... hope everything gets fixed quickly and without problems.

Certainly. Cars can be fixed. sh*t happens.

(I just wish sh*t would happen to someone else - or, if it must be me, not on a damn Monday)

The wreck only happened a few hours ago. The police report will be ready in a day or two, then I'll be in touch with his insurance company. He got a couple of citations... I got none. Should be pretty open and shut (knocks on wood)

No doubt... Guess it's a good thing I was there though. If I hadn't, he very well may have hit the lady and/or her dog and splattered them. The kid was still in high school. I was pissed but felt kinda sorry for him at the same time. I let him use my cell phone to call his parents. They were on the scene in about 5 minutes... Seemed like nice folks.

Glad there was no injuries. The rears of those trucks fold like pretzels. We had one of those in the shop that was hit on it's hitch. The floor(unibody) was bent so much that the back doors wouldn't open/close.

PS. you have a brake light out.

i would like to use this ill-fated situation to ask some info on how the insurance system works in US. here in italy for such a situation the insurance of the guy would pay you without any doubt, paying directly the cost of the repair.
btw, i'm sorry for what happen, the lady should thank you....

Yeah, this stuff always stinks. Good thing no one was hurt.

BTW, why would the police be there so late?

Shouldn't they be on scene for the official word so you can use it for insurance?

Yeah here too the police only gets involved if it was a bad accident or it affected the public (blocked the road or multiple casualties). Otherwise all the problems would be solved between the insurance companies.

Strange. Here the police should come either way, no matter how bad the accident, just to get the official word on things. This is to keep the official story from changing.

we used a standard form to be filled with both the version of the accindent. if there's any doubt, the two insurance companies while discuss between them to find out who is guilty. the was who lost don't have to pay directly the damage value, but he will pay more his own next years insurance. even if he changes company...
