Pretty scary stuff.
I saw that happen at Santa Pod a few years back, but he got half way down the track before it went. It was a V engine aswell, so it exited at an angle, got quite a bit of height on it, and landed in the crowd, along with quite a lot of the rest of the internals. I don't think any one was injured though. The worst one was a funny car that had the supercharger go during the burnout. It demonstrated why they wrap a flak jacket round it!
