fire breathing!!

I just came across this fire breathing accident video shot in downtown Los Angeles during Cirque Berzerk rehearsals. Thought it was hilarious, it cracks me up every time I watch it.

ive heard of a guy who used to do fire breathing for a living. he burped as he was doing it and the flame apparently exploded inside his esophagus and exploded. to simplify it a bit, his head got blown off. the audience thought it was all part of the act too.

Its not possible for a head to get "blown off" in that fashion. It all has to do with pressure and the means by which it escapes from a given object. The pressure from the combusting gas can still escape out through the man's throat in this case. The only time something explodes is when the rapidly increasing pressure cannot find an escape route quickly enough or doesn't have one to begin with.

examples:

-A grenade explodes in all directions because it is sealed with no escape for the pressure except for through the shell itself.

-A rifle sends a bullet flying straight out the end of the barrel because the pressure from the round escapes in that direction.

Nothing like a little common sense to clear up an urban legend

. That said, I still wouldn't recommend for you to try it at home.
