The profit margins in luxury, fast boats are MUCH higher than in sportcars.

I am really not surprised at this move.

TVR are well versed in GRP, which is ideal for building fast boats.
They also have the right sort of image.

Since Smolenski came to power he has insited on more quality checks, so that TVR make better cars.

He has hired more staff and wants to build a new factory, to build better cars.

He has plans to make TVR a global brand, for which he will need to produce better cars.

How is this ruining the company?

It is obvious that Peter Wheeler was never going to be in charge for ever.
So the days of completely nuts TVRs that look brilliant and go like stink but you'd never own for fear of it breaking down every 5mins may be waning. In this day and age could you really expect anything else?

You can basically charge whatever they are willing to pay, regardless of how little you spent making the thing.
