To be honest the best way to learn is practice. Try copying the car's body shapes from photos in an effort to get an understanding of their shape. Then start to draw from your head then go back to photos to see what you need to fix. This is pretty much how I learnt, but I can't be bothered getting a scanner so your all just gonna have to take my word for it that I'm the best artist in the history of the world

one of the hardest parts is having the sides the same. make sure the left fender has the same exact curve as the right fender. also the distances. the distances between the a pillars shoudl be about the same as the width of the car.
the best advice is just practice. draw and draw and draw. im sure ive drawn well over 1000 cars, and i still coudl stand to draw more. |

i always start with the wheels..the whole car is associated with the wheel geometry, and this is what helps me a lot in 3d

Yes, you must start with the weels and then, the shape of the car. The last thing, the shadows, is important too.

Method 1
Single point perspective, or the quick 'n' easy method.
1) - draw line 2) - draw on your ellipses (ovals) which will be the wheels. Ideally the front wheel should be more "open" that the rear wheel e.g. rounder. (take a coin or something, look at face - that is "open". Turn the coin 90° so that you can see the edge, that is "closed") 3) - map out where you car body will go 4) - add all the details etc. 5) - rinse, repeat etc. Practice makes perfect, or near enough. Due to perspective, there should be a wider space between the nearest side of the vehicle to the centre line, than from the centre line of the far side.

Method 2
Two point perspective, or the not so easy method.
1) draw a rectangle in perspective. Then put a few 'horizontal' lines in where the axles will go. Then, at 90° to the 'axle' you want a 'vertical' line, which will be the vertical centreline of the wheel. 2) map out where the body will go. I usually end up making the car too long, or two narrow. Probably the hardest bit is keeping it all in proportion and perspective. 3) fill in details etc. I'd probably use that as an underlay, and do a better version, as the basic perspective is there, and it is fairly easy to rework an existing sketch than starting again. These were never meant to be Vauxhalls, it just turned out that way.
