Awesome pictures in this thread and the other one.

Just a quick question- do you guys shoot with tripods or is it not necessary?

I'm asking cause I'm a noob and I'm interested in buying a DSLR.

tripods are necessary for low light settings, long exposures and generally reducing camera shake to avoid blur. They are also priceless when it comes to panning. If you could use a tripod all the time, you would. But its not always practical. Thats the way you should think of it anyway.

Yeah, I have a Nikon point and shoot right now. I plan to upgrade when my budget can fit it in.
