Sorry everyone, I've been left without internet for the past couple days. I guess all the snow had knocked out my rooftop cables.

The crane in the background was offloading the Berge Stahl. Probably known to most, this is the largest vessel in the world.

which it is not, currently there are 6 ships existing that can carry a higher cargo volume.
Berge Stahl carries about 365000 DWT, one 1979 built 390000 DWT tanker is still there, and there are four relatively new (from 2002/03) 440000 DWT tankers (operated by a Belgian company) but the biggest of them all is the 1979 built Knock Nevis, which has a capacity of 560000 DWT, but has spent most of its life as a storage tanker.

On top of this there have been 44 more ships larger than Berge Stahl, which have already been broken up or converted into floating storage and processing units.

My apologies. I meant the biggest bulk carrier ship in the world. It is also the second largest vessel to set sail into Rotterdam, excluding the Maersk E-class offcourse. She is still a mighty impressive vessel. A colleague has been so lucky to go on board and get a tour from the crew. I'd loved to be in his shoe's.

Sorry, but also that claim is not valid, many of the now scrapped 400,000 DWT plus tankers regularly used to visit Rotterdam, including the 550,000 DWT Shell giants Batillus and Bellamya....
