Jaguar XFR
In the universe of high end performance sedans, where does one place the Jaguar XFR in terns of pricing, comfort, and performance, given that sedans such as the BMW M5 and Cadillac CTS-V, are already having a nice lunch together, in that luxury/performance category? Do you think the Jaguar XFR has a chance on earth to wow a special breed or class of consumers from the M5 or Cadillac CTS-V?
Here is a video that might help with this discussion. While I personally do not know what to make of the Jaguar XFR, its looks is commendable.

it looks better than both of those, so people who prefer a bias for style over absolute performance would probably like one.
i would, the idea of a super fast sedan/saloon seems excessive to me.. as long as it's fast, i don't care about further additional increments in performance, that's what a sportscar is for.

I would agree. So, in essence, you are advocating for some level of optimality in the overall xteristics of a luxury sedan, rather than having one xteristics of the luxury sedan, overwhelm all the other aspects of the car.

I haven't driven a 5 Series or a CTS, but I drive occasionally an XF and all claims that it has no place in the market are just ignorant, uninformed bullshit.

Yeah yeah yeah, we get it - the G35 is God and Jesus of the car industry; you can probably out-accelerate it for a short time until it smokes you. However you can completely destroy it when you take it to your "secret" track.

You maybe mostly right. So, what's your take on the real topic at hand? Is the XFR living up to its hype or not? Please, be objective in your assertions.

Whenever I've seen or read a review of any other Jaguar the end result has always been something like 'The Jaguar isn't as good as some of its rivals but it's a Jaguar so the nostalgia and British charm make it acceptable.' Which is fine and I agree with because I find XJRs far more interesting to look at than any S class or 7 series for example. However the XFR is the first time I've seen a Jaguar be judged as equal with any of its competitors on a performance basis so I would have to say it might one day start taking sales away from the M5 or E55 AMG - not many, but a few.

People buy Audis. So it's got nothing to do with how capable are Jags.

Most of the reviews I've read where the XF-R was compared to the M5 said the M5 was the better performance car, but the torque from the XF-R's supercharged V8 combined with the smoothness of it's ZF automatic make it a much better all-arounder.
Having owned and M6 I can tell you that that V10 engine and seven-speed SMG transmission were no fun commuting to work everyday. However, on an open highway . . .

All the reviews I've read in the UK (not necessarily exhaustive!) give the XFR the nod over M5 etc. It certainly gets the desirablility vote form me!

I have been fortunate enough to have driven the S-type R a number of years ago and the XK-R and XF-R back to back fairly recently. I have not driven the M5 or CTS-V but have driven mainstream versions of both. The BMW 5 Series is hugely successful and its benefits and abilities are well documented but when it comes to the M5 the combination of the i-drive, the styling, and the gearbox would definitely stop me from parting with my money - in my opinion the M3 saloon is the better buy if you are a BMW man.
With respect to the XF-R the steering and suspension are so much improved over the S-Type it is untrue, the old car felt just a bit too vague for you to have the confidence to use the power, whereas the XF manages to feel absolutely poised without being harsh (the ride in my opinion is also better than any 5 Series on MSport suspension never mind the M5). The styling changes over the the mainstream versions are nicely sublte, the only thing missing from the XF is the supercharger whine which has been toned down a lot on the new generation.
