I see no black smoke.
The video might show black smoke when it starts. I'm looking for it but I cant find it.

The black smoke is very minimal. I was two or three feet behind one at a pit stop and did not see or smell anything. Which 'modern diesel' in the United States sports a particle filter?
Racing a Harrier is an example of picking your opponent. It is not what I would call the highest thrust to weight ration jet out there. The same tired old stunt is done year in year out. Basically it is far easier to move a few hundred kilos than it is to move a few thousand so the car will always get the jump. Of course with a top speed 1000kmh or so the Harrier will eventually win given enough distance.
Proves nothing but everyone has a good time.:)
There was a short on it on fox sports news last night but I only caught the last 30sec of it, but I saw no smoke

The only cars with diesels on sale in the US are Volkswaggens.
Maybe the 'modern diesel' he was refering to was in fact a truck with a diesel engine :p

The Harrier hasn't even been designed for horizontal take-off, so they may have sacrificed a few seconds there as well. As far as I remember Schumacher ran against an F16.
I thought it was a Eurofighter?
I thought it was a Eurofighter?
well. it laest it was something that was designed for normal take-off:D
I was in the padock at Goodwood as it drove past after it's run up the hill.
You definately know it's a diesel. Very different noise for a race car.
Like a tractor, and yes as it went past at low speed it did smoke a little, so compared to the other cars it is smokey. It's not like a chimeney but it's comparative.
They say (and by they I mean a gang of ageless Druids in the back room of a pub in Liverpool and Dr. Hunter S. Thompson) that the Vincent Black Shadow could outrun a F-104 until it took off. (and as a side note, the F-104's pilots say that if it had a proper set of wheels and clipped wings it could outrun Thrust SSC.)
This sort of thing is really, really fun to do, and draws a big crowd, but ultimately is pointless; like racing a squirrel and an eagle.
