Depends on what they want to do.
IF they follow tradition then I can see them going 5 cyl ( but limited availabiliyu/benefit ) or a Powertec V8 :)
But I'm betting they'll stick with a mainstream Japanese supplier and try to get volume :(

I think we can expect great things from Caterham now. But as to what, I haven't a clue.
How about we expect great things from lotus now? judging by their upcoming cars, they could use a nice injection of caterham!

Don't speak too soon!
It could be the other way round...

Lets hope not!
For start there's already a Special Edition out...

So what you get is a paintjob (which is already available on the Classic BTW) and an invitation to the factory. Yeah, thats on the lackluster side of things....

Wrong Lotus.. the Team Lotus that bought Caterham is nothing to do with the Group Lotus that is Lotus Cars.
im not suprised, they both build very similar vehicles :)

your idea of the transaction is wrong. Team Lotus/Tony Fernandez so far only owned the name Team Lotus and has no production facilities at all.
oh, I must have read that wrong. I thought the car companies were merging :p
Turbo stroker hayabusa motor perhaps? 12000 RPM and a shit load of boost equal 500HP on a whim. Significantly lighter than the current supercharged 2.4L v8 at that. Hell, a Turbo charged Hayabusa pushing 650HP just did a 248 on the Texas Mile. And that had stock internals, save 8:1 pistons. Now put a larger crank, perhaps some heads, lightweight conrods, cams, and you've got a rev happy beast that can safely push 550hp. Oh god its a dream. Yes, I've thought about doing this before. :D
a 7 is all a motorbike based engine would be good for. they are not suited to pushing heavy cars around
personally id like to see an 1800cc version of Honda's RCV211
(perfectly balanced)
turbo cannot get torque at low revs.
Needs supercharger adn then it's taking lots of power when you dont want it :(
By the time you go large turbo on a small I4 you get to being quite heavy :(
Especially if looking at bike tech with light alloys and designed for revs not torque.
Twin Charging
while more complex, cannot be faulted in power delivery
if you want a 2.0 four to out muscle a V8 at any engine speed then you want Twin Charging
With twins it's just more weight so going all the wrong way :(
Plumbing even a single turbo into a single seater is a horrible compromise, can't imagine where to find the space for 1 1/2 :)
But yeah, if it's just power then you can keep adding things to reach it.
When turbo are allowed back in top motorsport watch out for the advances in the variable vane tech. A great solution just not being driven hard enough through innovation.
Not sure about the wish for a larger RC2111 ... Audi did that game most successfully already 20 years ago. The 211V advatange was a different delivery profile on power which matters a lot in a bike and not in a car.
yeah but the engine will go however you tune it
compared to sticking the larger again V8, it strikes me as an interesting alternative. an extremely compact 5 cylinder nestled right in the center of the 7's engine bay
the size difference between it & the Duratec ford engine would be immediatly noticeable
ah, maybe different wants in us B :)
I dont mind how it looks in an engine bay :)
I just want it light, low and as far back as possible !!
