I'm actually surprised. you must own one of the only digital cameras which doesn't do B and W Shooting.
I guess they decided against it because they thought that people would be doing that manually ?
Composition is a key element, but there is nothing stopping people from getting the right light, contrast Etc using the camera's own attributes
Which is not possible when shooting RAW.
or alternatively, waiting for the light to be right.
Sure you could do that, and I do, but that's not always practical and it depends on what you're shooting.
sharpness is definately something the camera or the photographer should be able to do on the spot - focusing is a basic element of photography and if you can't do that right heaven help you.
Focussing is not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about enhancing things like edge sharpness. It has nothing to do with focussing. It has to do with the sharpness that your optics provide.
A good way to work is to find the strengths and weaknesses of your camera and sklls and accentuate the good bits.
Absolutely. I really learned shooting with an old Pentax with only a 50mm and 200mm Super Takumar and no AF, no lightmeter (well an external Lunasix), no electronic anything. It didn't even have a battery. It was great.
if you find B&W sterile, use a sterile looking environment for your subject. etc.
I don't think B&W is sterile. I think that B&W with the clean noiseless digital look can be sterile. But it depends on the subject at hand.
I don't quite get what you're trying to say here.
As 2ndCC said, most of this stuff you should be able to do when taking the shot, not just in the studio afterwards.
I can take great pics without editing. Heck I've been into photography since I was five and I learned it from an ex-pro (my dad) so I do know how to take a picture or two. But that picture you get after editing it just a little bit has that little edge that makes it a better picture than the one that came straight from the camera.
It not a case of I should edit just because I can but it's more a case of I can, so why shouldn't I make it look perfect.
I think we'll keep the rules as they are.
in that case, can I suggest that we have harsher penalties for the cheaters.
perhaps going to start their own competition??

I say that if they edit the picture in ANY way they're disqualified instantly. Second time banned from competitions.

Ok...there is Photoshop on your computer...this proves you have it legally how? I remember you even talking about how you pirated it and other programs.

You're humble too! :p
Good point though.

I agree, but then again, there are 20 who don't.
Perhaps two comps are in order?

The screenshot was on a school computer by the way.
Did you yourself pay the almost 3000$, that it costs ? Prove it then and stop complaining !
The versions I have now are by my knowledge legal... Is all the software on your computer ? ;) Didn't you ever download a song ?
How to go on with the photo competitions now ... ? Perhaps if we find a volunteer to run a new photography competitions with slight editing, we can start that up. Unfortunately I can't do that because of my studies and it's irregularity. I can help in the start-up phase perhaps.

I have an official Office license, and with Office comes a programme called Office Picture Manager. This can do quite a few of the functions photoshop does, but not all of them. As I assume many people use Windows Office officially, there is no need to fear for the future of the photo competitions.

As far as I can tell 23 people have voted for editing and 20 against. I say we keep it just the way it is. As long as people don't cheat there is no problem. Actually there wasn't a problem in the first place.

The free programme of Irfanview can do quite a lot of things too. It is one of my favorite programmes because of it's speed and ease of use. I use it quite often !

That's why I suggested starting a NEW comp, besides the current one. Want to volunteer, W ?

We have a competition that works, suggesting to start a new competition absolutely makes no sense. And don't patronize me, please. Your cheating has resulted in this pointless discussion, so a more modest position would be more appropriate. Thank you.

+1 to Wouter.
Oh, and shut up drakkie. You've lost. You can start your own competition, and see how many people enter it. I guarantee that I won't be one of them...

That's what has been done so far, actually.

As you can see on the poll results many people are unsatisfied with it. I just suggested a possible solution to this stand-off. The endless debates here seem to never find a proper solution, so I came with an idea to end them. You seem to not even want to end this stand-off or give a constructive idea or whatever it is called...
