Then why does the BMW 318i weight 1435kg and the BMW 330i 1555kg? Everything else is more or less the same, hence most of that 120kg increase must come from the bigger engine.
I was more refering to engines with the same amount of cylinders... Either way increase in radiator size is going to add weight, and im sure the 330 has more options (sound, wheels, electronics) as well as a different transmission to handle the added torque output (and to bolt to the I6).
I sincerely doubt that the proof you're looking for exists. It seems unlikely that there would exist two different cars with exactly the same weight, gearings, and, here's where it gets implausible, the same power/torque whilst have two different displacement engines.
Well all Im saying is displacement alone isnt going to tell you gas milage, and its idiotic to be taxed.

So they should tax gearing then? Or perhaps weight?

a combination of curb weight, mpg, and emissions?

Why penalise people which want to buy an estate instead of a saloon?

They shouldn't beat around the bush. If they want to improve gas mileage they should directly tax that, if they want to reduce power, they should directly tax that.
