What is going to happen to the guy that hit the truck?
Hopefully castration by bamboo shoot.

even stronger words would have been tolerated as thread title. Any indication why this moron did what he did? Making a phone call perhaps?
Does Australian law proved options for appropriate suing?

to clarify henk, the road is dead straight in a fairly built up area and a 50km/h zone - in the video you can hazard a guess as to how fast he's actually going.. and NO attempt to brake!
it's not clear at this stage if he's even insured - indian driver on an international license (which i believe are temporary?).
i would like to check if he was drunk or on the phone since i don't know why someone would go fast down that street, and even if they were, how they would lose control on a dead straight road and not see the row of parked cars.
at this stage our insurance is taking care of it; it will be their task to get money out of the perpetrator, not ours.
we get the payout regardless, no excess, and also have salvage rights and choice of repairer, so we'll see what happen after the valuation :(
but yes, definately grounds for suing given the gross negligence whilst driving.. caught on camera too.
on the plus side noone was hurt, although the driver was hospitalised.
for those interested in seeing the road in google street view;

Awww, sh't bru... I don't think that's going to buff out.
right next to the triumph shop, in these pics, is old man charlie and his body shop.. not even he could help! :(
i just want the engine and gearbox to be okay. there's no oil under it, so here's hoping..
it's interesting that the passenger compartment was unscathed, anybody in the car at the time would have been fine. i would not have picked that of the old girl..
I guess there can only be one Triumph around here... no one else get one, or there'll be trouble!
Woah, sorry to see that happen D: That really is some terrible driving. Hope the car can be repaired.
:mad:That hurts :(
Will insurance pay to an agreed value to allow a replacement of equal build quality ?
Can you even FIND one that good :(
Man, I dont know what to say .......................

they will pay the agreed value no problem, but the value agreed on was the sticking point in the first place given the bespoke parts.
if enough is salvageable, say the driveline for instance, then we'll have enough to transfer it into a fresh shell and end up with something not quite as bespoke but near identical to drive.
if nothing is salvageable, then there isn't enough to start another triumph up from scratch :( will have to look at something else.
for instance, i don't even know if there is anyone who makes those fibreglass bonnets/front ends any more?
This is a sucky situation. Stabby Stabby to the Triton driver.
May she rest in pieces. and rise from the ashes. or donate to other future endeavours.
Jeez man! What a waste! Good luck in sorting out this mess. Be careful not to let the insurance get away with a cheap deal for them (just some advice from someone with three totalled cars in his life allready :o)..
Wow, that's terrible.
Hope you can salvage as much as you can from the wreck and rebuild.
Condolences, man.
Jesus, Clutch... that's awful. The photos are hard to look at, knowing how much you had worked on it. Really sad. :(
What's the guy's excuse... was he on the phone?
is looking for you over here worth doing or is shipping prohibitive ?
Quiller are good for f/g panels but dont think they do full front.
Can ask around the classic club scene here if you want.
Just factor in the cost to ship and let me know how much you're able to offer.
KNow one went couple of years back for £50 !!
Quiller does list a full front and it's not huge money but still, it's not cheap: http://www.quillertriumph.co.uk/Quiller/Parts/Panels/FibreglassPanelsandhardtops.htm
Regardless, from the looks of it Clutch is gonna need a new tub. From the way it was hit, if it wasn't in gear the engine and drivetrain should be OK. All the interior bits can be ready for the next place to call home. Best of luck with that, mate. :)
I think i have a tear in my eye, that's such a shame :(

thanks, shouldn't be a problem - i'm with a specialist insurance company who usually do their best to help. choice of repairer (you can do it yourself and just present the bill), full salvage rights etc. they should come through

not at all, if it's cheap enough - relatives over there run a dealership so if i can locate a cheap enough rolling shell it's worth it to ship i think.
if we salvage enough parts and i can't find one locally, will definately be looking at your end of the world!

thanks CSL. there's no oil under the car so i'm holding out hope..
but also the impact at the front did not hit the chassis (the car is too low) but went straight into the radiator so i don't know how much force was put on the engine.
oh thats painful :(. So sorry Clutch. I hope this will get sorted out for you. What a stupid thing to have happen.
Sheesh, accordioned, Sorry for your loss.
i might go down and have a look at some auctions;
Car Insurance Australia - Car Enthusiasts - Classic Car Insurance - Shannons
also later today i'm giving the road and track workshop a call
Road And Track - Toyota Spare Parts Ipswich
as they might have some rolling shells available (hell, i might throw an offer on their track GT6)
Sorry to see/here that Clutch, I hope you'll manage to save the most parts of the car.
I'd be paranoid about parking basically everywhere now...
Just curious, clutch... do your insurance companies allow you to buy back the wreck, even if they total it and pay you a dividend?
Besides that, how'd the trip to the auctions and R&T go?
the insurance company gives me the wreck as part of the policy either way :)
throwing down on the auctions for the hell of it. will see what happens.

Just to clarify, that's not a standard thing for insurers here. Shannon's niche is for these sorts of classic vehicles, so they cater to the sorts of demands that their customers have.
They sound pretty nifty actually, agreed repairer & value, salvage title, all the good stuff most insurers reject.
They know their market and they cater for it very well. They have higher.. standards.. for their customers though. I tried for them with my mini, but was turned down.. I can't remember why, but it probably had something to do with the crash I had with my BMW.
hilariously they also cover me for terrorist attack fallout after i found a clause which said they didn't (noone does) and called them on it
^^^ That HAS to have been worth the premiums.
premium was roughly $800 per year iirc. different standards for pre-1970 stuff, it's expected that it won't be driven everyday thus the rates are adjusted accordingly.
here she is at home this morning:

everything laid out in order as it is removed:

upon further consideration after seeing it stripped of trim the next car may be 10-15mm lower, the seats can be bolted straight to the floor and a perspex wind deflector fitted

Wish that was an option for all policies. Good luck putting some of it back together.
